A warm and humid day is on tap today. High temps will be in the 80s, and may even take a run at 90°. Dew points will be in the 60s, and this will set the stage for thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

We expect a round of showers and thunderstorms associated with an approaching cold front on Saturday. Some of the storms will likely become severe, moving west to east across the area, occurring from noon to 8pm. There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms (level 2 out of 5) for the NYC metro, NE NJ, Lower Hudson Valley, and SW Connecticut. There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms (level 1 out of 5) across much of Long Island and SE CT. The main threat from any severe thunderstorm will be from damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. There is also a risk of an isolated tornado and isolated occurrence of hail (~1 inch diameter) within the slight risk area. Minor urban/poor drainage flooding possible with a localized flash flood risk.

Tropical Atlantic (AL91):
Shower and thunderstorm activity is currently limited and
disorganized in association with a tropical wave over the central
tropical Atlantic. Although upper-level winds are generally
favorable for development, environmental dry air is likely to limit
development over the next couple of days. However, a tropical
depression could still form early next week as the system moves
westward at around 10 mph across the central tropical Atlantic. This
system is likely to be near the Lesser Antilles by the middle to
latter part of next week, and interests there should monitor its
progress.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...high...70 percent.

Partly to mostly sunny and warm with upper 70s to middle 80s in most places on Friday. A cold front approaches and moves in Saturday afternoon increasing the likelihood of rain Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Mainly dry, with perhaps a few lingering hit and miss showers early on Sunday as it turns cooler into next week.
