PearTree Designs

PearTree Designs PearTree Designs is Teresa Pereira's freelance graphic design and visual arts business, based in Westchester, NY.

I’m an Art Teacher, a freelance Graphic Designer, and—most recently—a small business owner, selling hand painted jewelry. I also continue to paint—both on canvas and as a muralist. I've had paintings shown in galleries and art fairs in Westchester County. Mural clients include Yonkers Public Library, who commissioned murals for all three of its branches.

Here’s another tutorial video at superseded, followed by the wonderful work of the students who were guided by it.

This was done as homework for the intro to landscapes section for my sophomores. I changed it up from the winter landscape I’d assigned in past years. Some wishful island life thinking, on my part!

The actual video is 15 mins long, with some time lapse. Note: the “en plein air” caption is only because I defined it for them, not because it describes this process.

Check out this nice portrait of me that one of the shadow visitors drew while in the art room today. The inset photo is what I wore today—I love how she did my earrings.

She’s an 8th grader who loves to draw and it was so sweet of her to give the drawing to me (I had no idea that she was drawing me until she presented this to me at end of the class.)

I hope she is a student of mine next year!

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is around the corner, to say nothing of Christmas. If you’re trying to get your holiday shopping done before crunch time, consider stopping by the Pelham Art Center’s Holiday Boutique for some artsy gifts. Swipe to see their flier for details.

These four pieces of mine are in the juried collection. They are usable art, and yes, I chose them based on color scheme 🎨! I’ll be at the opening reception this Saturday to see what will surely be a lovely display of work. ❄️🎁🖼️🎨

I have been working on this portrait for many hours…days, really. It’s my mom as a young woman, using a reference photo I’m obsessed with that’s not the best quality. But I was determined to paint a clearer, more allegorical version. It’s nearly—not quite—finished. I need to let it rest for a while to regain some objectivity. But because today is my mother’s birthday, I’m sharing it as a gift to her.

The magnolia tree and mockingbird are included for a meaningful reason that is in the comments because it’s kinda long.

Some stills from Thursday’s NAWA new members Induction ceremony. I’m thrilled to be part of this supportive and creative sisterhood, and was so glad my two actual sisters joined me for the event.🧍🏾‍♀️🧍🏽‍♀️🧍🏽‍♀️💕

I drove down to Gramercy Park in Manhattan today to drop off a painting that was accepted into the National Association of Women Artists new members exhibit.

The exhibit will be on view in the Trask Gallery from Nov 2 to Nov 8 in the National Art Club. I’ve walked by this building several times in the past, but have never been inside.

I feel so honored to have a piece hanging on the walls of this historic building, even if only for a few days. It was the home of NY Governor Tilden from 1860-1886 before it became a club for artists. It felt like being in an Edith Wharton novel as I walked through it.

The new NAWA member induction ceremony is next Thursday, and am really looking forward it.

This year’s Senior Mural is one of my favorites of the nine I’ve supervised.

It was a true group effort: the students, as always, came up with the concept and created their characters; I suggested and I digitally designed the backdrop for them. Everyone pitched in to paint it. It was the first time with speech bubbles, and we all put collaborative thought into each said. I’m so proud of them all!

I'm planning an oil painting of my mom so did these two studies of her as a young woman from two old photos I love. The one in color was a quick work in colored pencil and chalk pastel. The graphite one took quite a long time because it was pretty challenging to try to fill in the missing info. I used my own arm as reference because hers was cut off in the original photo. I’m going with the first one for the painting .

She rarely wore her hair out so it was amazing to see just how long it was. Plus, I love the positions of both her hands.

I wasn’t able to go the opening reception of “I’m Scared, Too,” but last weekend my family and I went to see this really wonderful collection of art, where artists were asked to submit that explored themes of fear. Here’s a quick look.

If you’re local to the area, or boating in the next few weeks, it’s very much worth a visit. The gallery and the property are both very lovely.

And I was thrilled to see my painting on the same wall as a former student’s of mine (the price with the heart and candles).
