Almost everyone has found a teacher who they’ve truly connected with. Their class can make the worst days a little better, and seeing their smiling face in the hallway can make a crisis seem slightly less stressful. For over two decades, History and Social Studies teacher Christopher Connole has prioritized establishing connections with his students through his personal teaching style, and he is now transferring these goals to a new position at WA.

Connole has taken on an additional role in the Westford Public Schools district as the curriculum coordinator of the History and Social Studies Department in light of previous curriculum coordinator Adam Ingano’s new position as principal of Blanchard Middle School.

According to Connole, he has intentionally stayed away from administrative positions over the course of his teaching career, but after several encouraging conversations with colleagues, Connole decided to apply for the role.

“A number of people were very supportive of me taking [the position] on, and that felt good, and I appreciated that,” Connole said. “It wasn’t something I was looking for, but the opportunity was there, and I had support and felt like it was a good match.”

You’re standing at the free-throw line and your team is two points down with only a few seconds left on the clock. The only sound you can hear is the beating of your own heart, a sharp contrast to the loud and rowdy environment surrounding you. You take a deep breath, dribble the ball, shoot, and score. You grasp the ball again, dribble, and launch it towards the hoop. It sails smoothly through the ring, the crowd erupts, and you immediately feel your teammates’ arms wrapped around you.

This movie-like scene was a reality for WA Girls’ Basketball senior captain Kaitlyn Pepin during the 2023-2024 season. Now, Pepin will hold memories such as this one close to her heart as she soaks in her last season on the team.

Pepin will continue to pursue basketball at the Division III level at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the fall of 2026, while also exploring her passion for engineering by selecting the subject as her major.

Many new and pre-existing after-school clubs will hold their meetings together in the WA cafeteria following budget cuts, taking part in a new invention called the “Club Cafe.”

After financial reductions were made to Westford Public Schools in Sept. 2024, 25% of WA clubs were left without an adviser. For club leaders, it became increasingly hard to find teachers willing to devote time to advising after-school groups. However, instead of shutting these clubs down, Dean Betsy Murphy created the Club Cafe, providing any interested students with space to work creatively within WA. Clubs in the Club Cafe will be able to meet every Thursday from 2:25 p.m. to 3:25 p.m. in the cafeteria.
