Wednesday turned out to be a record-setting day in St. Joseph!

The high reached 68° at Rosecrans Memorial Airport, breaking the old record of 62° set in 1965 and tied again in 2006.

The wolf moon will rise in the night sky Friday. January’s full moon gets its name because wolves were often heard howling on long winter nights.

This wolf moon is the first of three supermoons of 2026, though the next two won’t happen until November. Supermoons appear up to 16% brighter and 7% larger than an average full moon.

A wintry mix of sleet and snow has started falling in Weston. The precipitation is fine and blowing sideways in the strong wind.

Wintry weather is expected to continue over the next few hours as a band of snow pushes in from the west. Reduced visibility is possible, and near whiteout conditions have been reported in central Kansas along Interstate 70. Minor accumulations are expected.

A Wind Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday for the entire region.

Northwest winds will increase behind a cold front, with gusts up to 45 mph at times.

After five days in a row with highs in the 60s at Kansas City International Airport, a strong cold front is set to arrive early Sunday morning.

Showers have developed ahead of the front and will continue overnight.

Temperatures in the 50s early Sunday morning will tank to the 20s by the evening. A blustery northwesterly wind gusting in excess of 40 mph throughout the day will make you want to bundle up!
