Lessons Learned Today in a Zoom Deposition:
Zoom is extremely easy to use - our kids are on there every day for classes. Does that mean you should set up and run your own Zoom Deposition without a professional videographer? No - it does not. Today's lesson is this:
FOCUS ON WHAT YOU DO, LET US FOCUS ON WHAT WE DO!
Some attorneys are setting up, running and recording their own depositions through Zoom's record feature. Some court reporters are being tasked with handling the reporting, coordinating the Zoom, and managing the recording feature.
While doable, these are not the best options.
Your best option is to hire a videographer to record the Zoom, maintain the media, and oversee the deposition. Attorneys - all you should focus on is your questioning. Court Reporters - all you should focus on is getting the record right. The Legal Videographer will read you on and off the record, make sure the media is recorded properly, ensure the correct person is being recorded (as opposed to Zoom bouncing around), react quickly in the event of any disruption, and most important of all - let you focus on your job!
One other note....if you use Zoom's record feature, the entire meeting is recorded. That means you'll need to stop and start anytime you go on and off the record. Additionally, the video file is processed after the meeting ends - if there are any hiccups in the process, you won't know until the very end - and you could end up with no recording. And...those video files process and store on your computer....huge files that can take a long time and eat up your storage space.
The good part is you don't need to worry about any of the issues above - just bring us in to assist! The SCP Legal Team is standing by to help with any Zoom Deposition questions you have. Feel free to reach out anytime!
