Nayan Patel knows firsthand how complicated immigrating to the United States can be. He came to the country from India as a child and has watched his family navigate the process. Now he is using his coding skills to help others.

Seventeen-year-old Patel, a junior at the Roxbury Latin School and a naturalized citizen, created Immigration GPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot based on the knowledge of immigration professionals to answer questions and guide immigrants to vetted resources on topics such as finding work, and adjusting to life in the United States.

As Weston High School students returned to school on Sept. 2, they probably noticed one of the year’s two major changes right away.

Beginning this year, Weston High School – as was already the case with the Middle School and elementary schools – is now cellphone-free from bell to bell, with students required to place their devices in lockers upon arrival. The other major initiative undertaken by the district, and one that will have a major effect on learning time despite its low visibility, is the new scheduling adopted in 2025.

As Weston High School students returned to school on Sept. 2, they probably noticed one of the year’s two major changes right away.
