Help Lead Wyoming Journalism Forward

News Reporter – Platte County Record-Times (Wheatland, WY)

Three weeks ago, the lights nearly went out on community journalism in Wyoming. Thanks to a new locally owned partnership, the Platte County Record-Times is alive again—and we’re building for the future.

We are seeking a working news reporter to join our newsroom in Wheatland. This is a hands-on role: writing stories, shooting photographs, mentoring a small but dedicated staff, and shaping the coverage that keeps Platte County informed and connected.

What You’ll Do:
Report on schools, government, courts, businesses, and community life
Shoot photos that capture the spirit of Platte County
Be part of a small, but committed newsroom staff
Work closely with publishers who are invested in Wyoming’s future
Uphold the values of local, independent journalism

Who You Are:
A strong writer and storyteller with a nose for news
Comfortable juggling reporting, editing, and photography
A leader who thrives in a collaborative, small-team environment
Passionate about local journalism and the role it plays in civic life

What We Offer:
The chance to be part of a fresh start for Wyoming journalism
Support from owners and colleagues who live and work in Wyoming
Competitive compensation and the opportunity to grow with us
The satisfaction of making a real difference in your community
This is more than a job—it’s a chance to help rebuild and reimagine trusted local journalism at a crucial moment.

Send a resume and letter of interest to Rob Mortimore at [email protected].
