Wheeling Votes 2024, Episode 16: Palmer for Ward 6

Dave Palmer has represented Ward 6 on the Wheeling city council since 2016. He ran unopposed in 2020, but now faces challenged Nick McCort as he runs for a third term.

In the eleventh hour before the May 14 election, Wheeling’s race for mayor has turned from an issues-based discussion to mudslinging.

Ads attacking candidates without properly disclosing who or what is funding them and videos attacking candidates have popped up today.

Wheeling Votes 2024, Episode 12: Sklavounakis for Ward 4

Councilor Jerry Sklavounakis is a lifelong Wheeling resident, a father, and lawyer in the city. Now, he's hoping to retain his seat representing Ward 4 on the city council.

Next episode we'll discuss the race for Ward 5. Julia Chaplin and incumbent Councilor Ty Thorngate are on the ballot, but neither agreed to an interview with Wheeling Free Press.

John Prather has lived in Wheeling for over 20 years. A first time politician, he’s challenging Councilor Jerry Sklavounakis to represent Ward 4.

Ward 4 includes the neighborhoods of Woodsdale, Valley View, Clator, Morningside, Leatherwood, Greggsville, Oglebay, and parts of Edgewood.

Next episode we’ll meet Councilor Sklavounakis.

Wheeling Votes 2024, Episode 10: Cain for Ward 3

Ward 3 includes the neighborhoods of East Wheeling, Center Wheeling, South Wheeling, Mozart, and parts of downtown. It is also home to Wheeling Free Press!

Connie Cain is the only candidate in this race to respond to our request for an interview.

Next episode we'll meet John Prather who's running for Ward 4. After that, we'll meet incumbent Councilor Jerry Sklavounakis.

Connie Cain is a lifelong Wheeling resident who works for the PDC. Now, she is hoping to become Ward 3's city councilor. Ms. Cain is the only candidate in Ward 3 who agreed to be interviewed.

‘Early voting opens ahead of May 14 West Virginia primary election’

Ohio County residents can cast their ballots from May 1 through May 4, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and from May 6 through May 11, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the city-county building in downtown Wheeling.

Get out there and vote, Wheeling!

Early voting opened today, May 1, and will run through May 11. Ohio County residents can vote at 1500 Chapline St, Wheeling, WV 26003. Polls are open from 9 AM to 5 PM.

All independent voters have a RIGHT by law to choose which party primary they want to vote in. If you are denied a ballot contact the W. Va. Secretary of State’s office at (304) 558-6000 BEFORE YOU VOTE.

Wheeling Votes 2024, Episode 9: The Race for Ward 2

Although we were unable to interview any candidate in Ward 2, this episode still covers the race. Incumbent Councilor Ben Seidler is defending his seat from challengers Carlee Dittmar and Melissa Rebholz.

Sadly, we will not hear from any candidate in this ward. However, we will hear a few things about each person running for Ward 2 city councilor.

Wheeling Votes 2024, Episode 8: Edmond for Ward 1

Anthony Edmond is a lawyer who moved to Wheeling in 2015. He is one of five candidates running for Ward 1 city councilor, which includes Warwood, North Park, and parts of Glenwood.

Anthony is the only candidate to respond to a request for an interview by Wheeling Free Press.

On the next episode of Wheeling Votes 2024, we will discuss the race for Ward 2.
