Last Saturday on 10/18, an estimated 5,000 people took to the streets in White River Junction, VT to protest President Donald Trump's administration. Meeting on Lyman Bridge, the event was organized by the Upper Valley Visibility Brigade, Three Rivers Indivisible, and UV Rise Up. National organizers estimated nearly 7 million people protested nationwide in 2700 locations, making it, they claim, the largest single-day protest in American history. Video produced by Rick Russell for JAM.

🔉🤲 NEW JAM community podcast: Ordinary Jews. Talking. 🤲🔉

Listen at UVJAM.ORG/LISTEN

From show producer/host Liora Alschuler:
Ordinary Jews. Talking. is about us, you and I, talking. To each other. About how we are being Jewish in the world today and our relationship to Israel – topics that may have been difficult for us to talk about in the past and maybe more so since October 7, 2023. Each episode starts with a bit of Jewish Geography – where and how did we grow up Jewish and how has that changed – or not – over time? Is it an important part of our life—or not? And then the Israel thing – feel connected, or not? Visited or lived there? And then we dig in a bit to how we are feeling in this post October 7 world – how has it affected us and our relationship to Judaism and to Israel?

For my part, I did grow up Jewish and have stayed so and I lived in Israel for several years. Since returning, I’ve found it really hard to talk about all that. (See Episode 0 for more on me.) My sense is that you, too, have your own history, antecedents, opinions, and experience. Perhaps you are also finding that the circles where you are comfortable sharing opinions, affections, concerns, and allegiances could stand to grow a little. If you would like to be part of the conversation, please write a short note to me at: [email protected]

🔉🌲 NEW JAM community podcast: ROADSIDE VERMONT! 🌲🔉

Listen at UVJAM.ORG/LISTEN

Roadside Vermont is a series about the historical monuments, markers, and plaques that are all too easy to drive by and never stop to read. Host Kelby Greene travels to the far corners of VT to talk to local storytellers, historians, and community stewards about the quirky, quizzical, and surprising events of the history hidden in dirt roads and rural highways. From vampires to missile silos, to pencil mills and famed fiddlers, this season will span all fourteen counties of Vermont!

This season is supported in part by a grant from Vermont Humanities, in partnership with the Vermont 250s Commission and Junction arts and Media—JAM. Special thanks to story editor Sophie Crane.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Kelby Greene (she/her) is a Norwich, Vermont based journalist and independent radio producer. Her work is about explaining the present through the past—looking for the precedents to seemingly unprecedented times. Rooted in a passion for rural places and their unique histories, she hopes to tell stories worth talking about: in the car, over dinner, and passing by the state’s hundreds of roadside markers.
