If you've known someone who has battled cancer then you know that simply feeling "human" again, is truly a gift. A day without having to juggle treatments, appointments, blood tests, and life with cancer... a day to just relax and be with the people you love is medicine for the soul.

Sail Beyond Cancer Virginia is a nonprofit organization that hosts free private sails to patients living with cancer, no matter their disease type, age, income level or background. Each can invite up to five passengers. Founder Suzanne Snyder, a Connecticut native and breast cancer survivor, launched the mission SBCUSA in 2014 in Vermont, originally under a different name. She since has created chapters in Massachusetts, Maryland and, this summer, Virginia, based at the York River Yacht Haven in Gloucester. SBCUSA has served more than 3,500 patients to date, each nominated by family, friends, caregivers or providers. Their seasons typically runs daily from mid-May to the end of October.

Got a great ReStore makeover story? Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg wants to see it👀

As part of its 40th anniversary celebration, Habitat is inviting the community to take part in “Show Us How You ReStore,” a creative contest that highlights the incredible ways people give new life to their Habitat ReStore finds. Simply share your before-and-after photos and the story behind your project for the chance to win one of four $40 ReStore gift cards awarded each month through the end of 2025. Enter here➡ bit.ly/ReStore-Contest 💰💸

Every purchase at ReStore 🛍 helps fund Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build affordable homes for families across the Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. That means a dresser turned into a bar cart, a chair painted a fresh new color or a table refinished for a family dining room doesn’t just brighten one home. It helps make another home possible.

Over 120 yogis gathered this past weekend at YMCA/APYC Camp Kekoka for the annual Kekoka Yoga Retreat (KYR). This was the largest attendance yet in the 16-year history of the event, and over $27,000 was raised for camper scholarships.

25 yoga teachers from the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, Hampton Roads area, and Richmond let participants sample a variety of yoga and teaching styles, ranging from meditative to energetic. Event chair Susan Johnson created a weekend schedule of class offerings that included yoga for all levels, Pilates, Gyrokinesis®, sound healing, meditation, and a lecture on metabolic/hormonal health.

A wonderful time was had by all! MARK YOUR CALENDAR for next year’s retreat, September 18-20, 2026. You’ll want to sign up as soon as registration opens June 1, 2026 because it has been known to sell out in one day!
