Stu Brumbaugh grew up in Great Falls. Spent his summers outside, hung around the drama department at CMR, and dreamed about making films.

Then a family friend got him on a movie set for one afternoon, and he never looked back.

Thirty years in Hollywood followed. John Wick, Dancing with the Stars, Deadliest Catch, and thousands of productions. He built one of the most respected grip and lighting companies in the business.

Then he had kids. And something shifted.

He’s back in Montana now. His mission is making Montana films, starting with Pi’tamaka, and building a filmmaking program in Great Falls so the next generation doesn’t have to leave to build a career in film.

If you haven't been to the Union Grill inside the Grand Union Hotel, add it to your Montana dining list now. The bison New York strip alone is worth the trip. We stayed for the martinis and the conversation at the bar and honestly didn't want to leave.

This is exactly what we mean when we say Montana dining is its own experience.

Some stops just make sense. Tamarack Brewing in Lakeside sits at the base of Blacktail Mountain along the shores of Flathead Lake. With a creekside patio and warm atmosphere, it’s the kind of place that earns a permanent spot on the list.

The Hat Trick IPA is exactly what it sounds like. Hoppy, tropical, and easy to linger over. The railroad ties with jalapeño dressing are worth ordering twice.

If you’re making your way through the Flathead Valley, this one isn’t optional. Read Full guide to Montana breweries worth the visit here https://www.montanaedit.com/article/montana-breweries-worth-the-visit 🍺

Stop 07 of finding the best coffee shop in Missoula, Montana ☕

Dog and Bicycle Bakery + Cafe in Missoula Sawmill District is the kind of place that reminds you why local spots beat chains every single time. Cozy, creative, and doing things with a menu that you won’t find anywhere else in Montana.

Case in point: the Mountain Bluebird. Caramel. Blueberry. Espresso. Iced with oat milk. It sounds like it shouldn’t work — it absolutely does. Paired it with a cinnamon chocolate chip muffin and I’m already thinking about going back for the rest of the food menu.

If you’re looking for the best coffee shops in Missoula, Montana add this one to your list.
