Conrad Press World's Finest Printmaking Presses since 1945! www.conradmachine.com Dear Printmaker,

Welcome to the official Conrad Machine Fan Page. Conrad Machine Co.

This year is a historic year in Conrad Machine's history; it marks our 66-year anniversary. was founded by my father and uncle, Earl and Robert Conrad, in 1945 with assistance from my grandfather, Hveding Conrad. Fresh out of WWII, my father and uncle started the company with little more than ideals and the American dream. In 1956, we began manufacturing our first printmaking presses. Today, we ar

e recognized around the world as one of the oldest manufacturers of fine art printmaking presses as well as the oldest manufacturer in North America. is proud to manufacture 6 different lines of presses. We do not, by and large, sell peripheral materials like other companies. Instead, we concentrate our time, energy, and engineering abilities on manufacturing the world's finest printmaking presses. We offer more lines of presses than any other press company. Our selection allows you to pick the press that best fits your wants, needs, and price range. The Conrad Machine Co. line of presses includes tabletop and floor model etching, combination, monotype, and lithography presses. These presses have proven to be popular in both the studio and educational settings. In addition to our Conrad Machine Co. press line, we have added the world-renowned American French Tool press line in 1999. Andre Beaudoin, American French Tool's founder, designed and built these elegant and graceful etching presses for nearly 30 years in Coventry, Rhode Island. Their agile design and stunning performance are unsurpassed in the printmaking industry. Recently, in 2007, we added the complete line of Rembrandt fine art presses. This line, designed by John Graves, has proven itself over the past 35 years, with its efficient and well-built design, to be very popular among printmakers. Our newest line of presses is the Brand New line. This line is designed after the Charles Brand style of presses. If you loved Charles Brand presses, you will love the Brand New line. Conrad Machine Warranty Logo Conrad Machine Co. is not only celebrating our 66-year anniversary, we are also celebrating more than 50 years of building the finest printmaking presses in the world. Had a chance to stop by Kala Art Institute during our time in San Francisco and attend the farewell party to the amazing studio tech Nick Shick. Sorry to see you go, Nick! I have never seen such well maintained presses.

We recently upgraded all three floor model AFT presses with modern Conrad micrometer gauges to replace the vintage sundials, which were never a true micro gauge. Nick was great to work will all along the way.

I hadn’t been to Kala since 2014, and it is great to see it still going strong and full of life.

Before/After shots of cleaning and prepping a neglected tabletop Conrad American French Tool for long-term storage during building renovations.

All of the presses in the etching studio have been abandoned for the last 3-4 years, including two floor model Charles Brand presses that got a similar glow up before getting put away for storage.

Another busy day moving presses at the former San Francisco Art Institute building.

The building itself is undergoing a complete overhaul and renovation, and the floors containing the print studios are next to be renovated, so everything needed to be removed to begin the project. Typically press moves are pretty straightforward, but in this case all nine presses were on the third and fourth floors with no elevator access and very tight doorways and stairwells. The lithography studio was able to boomed and craned out of the window to the street level, but all three of the upstairs etching presses needed to be completely disassembled and carried piece by piece down five flights of stairs!

And that’s just to move them to their storage facility, where we are reassembling the machines and prepping them for storage during the renovation.

At least the weather and view was nice!! 😊

Had the chance to visit Hope College in Holland, Michigan just a few miles south of us to give their presses a tune up before the school year begins.

They have a beautiful Conrad press along with an older style Charles Brand press that was a little worse for the wear.

The warp plate on the Brand was much past its servicing schedule and had warped and expanded to the point that it did not want to come out of the press. Thankfully, we broke it free and have a new one ready to install. For reference, the plate in the second to last photo should be flat. 😂

All ready for the new year!

We’re thrilled to see our Conrad Monotype press sparking joy in Kuwait!

Seeing artists across the globe use our presses to bring their creative vision to life is so rewarding for us.

Kuwait is a long way from west Michigan, so this particular press had a long journey ahead of it, but it did finally arrive in its new home and is now assembled, pulling prints, and ready for the road ahead.

Visual artist is “floating in bliss”, and we couldn’t be happier for her, as it was her dream to own a press since taking a monotype printmaking class in graduate school. We are so thankful that we could play a small role is making that dream a reality.

Happy printing!

Last week, we picked up this beautiful Conrad E-24 (24x48) etching press from local West Michigan artist Jean Allemeier Boot, who will be reluctantly saying goodbye to the press but thankfully not to printmaking, as she moves locations and downsizes/consolidates her studio.

Moving a Conrad E-24 really is as simple as two people lifting and moving the press into place. No special equipment needed of any kind.

Unfortunately for everyone wondering, we already have this press boxed, crated, and ready to ship to its new owner, so it is not available for purchase.

Stay posted as we might have a few used presses available soon!

Happy for the recent visit by Michigan printmaker BigMittenLinocuts!

Betsy was visiting West Michigan from the east side of the state and called to see if she could stop in for a tour.

Here she is with the small Conrad E-15 we have in the office with one our handmade Conrad Brayers. We love getting to meet our local printmaking community!

A wonderful new addition to the printmaking department: a mobile workshop-friendly Conrad E-18 that can travel around campus for community-based demos.

As you might imagine, the larger Conrad E-36x60 and massive Conrad E-52x80 are much more difficult to wheel around campus. 😂😂

Professor has an incredible vision for the program at HCC, and it is wonderful seeing it grow with the new interest he is generating in printmaking!

Absolutely thrilled with how this custom Conrad C-16 Combination Press turned out. It is so rewarding to see the smiles on people’s faces when they get to pull their first print on their new machines.

This C-16 made quite the journey to its new home: all the way to Newfoundland, Canada, as surprise birthday gift! 🎉🎂🎁

The bold, bright red color was hand picked specifically for the artist. What a beautiful centerpiece in the studio.

I can’t wait to see some more prints roll off the press.

Happy birthday and happy printing!!

Linocut printing this cute kitty. 🐈

He was inspired by my own cat, Leo, who is now 14 but still always looks at you like this, curious why he is getting more pets.
