Job Position Announcement: Lecturer – Mass Communication
Midwestern State University’s Mass Communication Department is accepting applications for a lecturer to begin August 2025. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The department offers a variety of courses across the discipline leading to a broad mass communication degree with specialized minors in public relations/advertising, digital media, broadcasting, digital film production and multimedia journalism. We are highly student-oriented, and faculty are expected to be accessible to the students. Our students, faculty and alumni have won major awards at the state, regional and national levels. Our seven-year-old, multi-million dollar facility includes a full studio, newsroom, Mac and PC labs, all of which were just upgraded with new computers and software.
Midwestern State University, located about two hours from the DFW Metroplex, is the only Texas public institution that is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. With an enrollment of about 5700 students, MSU is small enough to be personal but large enough to offer students considerable opportunities. MSU Texas is centrally located between Dallas and Oklahoma City in Wichita Falls (population 103,000). The city is small enough to navigate and large enough to offer interesting opportunities.
Duties: Teach a range of core courses that may include Film Appreciation, Mass Media and Society, Interpersonal Communication, Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Gender/Sexuality/Communication and other courses depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications; be a positive representative of the department both on and off campus; other duties as assigned. Lecturers are expected to concentrate on teaching and have few if any mandatory committee or advising assignments.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in mass communication, speech communication or a related field required. Teaching experience is preferred. Relevant doctorate is preferred.
