If your slice backhand tends to float, sit up to be crushed, or dump straight into the net, you are probably making one of these three common mistakes.
Here is how to fix your slice and turn it into a weapon:

1️⃣ Check Your Grip (It’s Non-Negotiable)
You absolutely must be in a Continental grip. If you try to hit a slice with an Eastern or Semi-Western backhand grip, you will naturally pull across the ball, resulting in a weak, floaty shot. Shift those knuckles, feel the “hammer” grip, and trust it.

2️⃣ Drive THROUGH, Don’t Just Chop DOWN
The biggest mistake players make is swinging straight down like an axe. That creates backspin, but zero pe*******on. Your swing path should be shaped more like a shallow “U.” Start high, come down to the ball, but drive through the point of contact toward your target before finishing outward.

3️⃣ Keep Your Shoulders Closed
If you open your chest to the net too early, you lose all your leverage and control. Stay sideways through the entire shot. A great trick: as your dominant arm swings forward to hit the ball, force your non-dominant arm to extend backward. This “scissoring” action locks your shoulders in place.
