It’s 10 p.m. Do you know where your kids are?

Because if they have a 3D printer, they could print Dad’s Father’s Day gift. 😄

The pop can tab opener has officially made it to the top of my design list.

I’m testing a few different directions right now — thinner exposed-hook versions, enclosed pocket-style versions, and maybe a hybrid of the two.

The main question is whether I should narrow this down to one “best” version or keep a few different options available.

These are being designed as small functional add-ons, not giant logo billboards. They still have color-swap/customization options, finger holes for long nails, and keychain holes, but the focus is making them easy to use and natural to hook onto the tab.

I just posted a Patreon poll with the current design directions.

If you want input before I lock this one in, now is the time:

Hi all,

The last few days, in addition to working on design requests, I've been working on a better way to answer questions, help people find files, collect requests, and generally help people get the most out of everything that's already available.

What I've been building is something I'm calling a digital persona.

A lot of information currently lives in my head: product information, licensing details, compatibility questions, file locations, common issues, product history, and all the other things I answer through messages every day. I'm working on getting that information into a digital environment where people can access it more easily.

This isn't just a collection of canned responses. It can hold a conversation, answer questions based on the information I've provided, point people in the right direction, collect requests, and know when something should be escalated instead of answered.

The first version will be connected to Facebook Messenger. When someone sends a message, it should be able to handle the vast majority of common questions. If it can't, or if something needs personal attention, it gets escalated.

Right now it's running in development mode, so it's only available to me and a small group of people helping test it. I'm intentionally trying to break it. I'm taking real questions people ask, giving it the information behind those answers, testing edge cases, and generally trying to find its limits before it goes live.

One feature I'm especially excited about is request tracking. If you ask about a product, size, lid, accessory, or feature that doesn't currently exist, it can recognize that, collect the request, and add it to a centralized list for review so ideas and opportunities don't get lost.

Longer term, I think this could become useful for things beyond product questions. If I explain how to do something in Bambu Studio once, for example, there's no reason that information shouldn't be available to everyone else who asks the same question later.

Most importantly, this is not intended to create a barrier between me and the community. It's actually the opposite. The goal is to answer common questions faster, make sure requests don't get lost, and allow the things that truly need my attention to get in front of me more quickly.

I've also recently brought on additional CAD support. My focus will remain on developing new products, new features, and new ecosystems while the new designer helps expand those ideas across the existing product lineup. If I create a new lid system, for example, he can help implement it across the compatible sizes and models while I continue moving the next ideas forward.

The messaging system requires Facebook approval, so assuming that process goes smoothly I expect to have it available for broader testing within the next week or two. I think I can incorporate it into Patreon messages too but I will sort that out later.

I've included a screenshot below so you can get an idea of what the conversations look like today. It's still a work in progress, but the progress so far has been very encouraging.

Looking for CAD Design Help

My 3D printed product ecosystem has been growing extremely fast lately, and I’ve officially reached the point where I need some help on the CAD/design side to continue scaling things properly.

I’m looking for somebody with strong professional CAD experience that may be interested in flexible remote contract-style side work helping expand product variants, accessories, compatibility updates, themed versions, etc.

This is NOT basic mesh editing or hobby-level modeling. These products are designed from scratch using professional parametric CAD workflows, so experience with platforms such as:

Siemens NX
CATIA
SolidWorks
Fusion 360
or similar software is extremely important.

Huge bonus if you also already understand:

3D printing
printability
tolerances/fitment
support avoidance
modular systems

For some background, my day job is engineering management within aerospace product development, where I manage a team of design engineers, so I’m very familiar with this type of work and talent search.

This would be flexible remote contract-style work focused on output/results rather than rigid schedules.

If this sounds like you — or somebody you know — send me an email at [email protected] with some information about yourself and examples of your work.

Really excited about where all of this is heading and looking forward to scaling things further.

Stealth mode: activated. 👀🥤

Introducing the new Stealth Sipper Lid (SSL) for the cooler can holder system.

Drink directly from the can while keeping labels, branding, and the top rim hidden for a cleaner, low-profile look.

And yes… if you already printed a standard 12 oz holder, you only need the new lid. Swap and go.

The SSL is now live on Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/posts/can-holder-lid-158903677?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link

As seen in this video: https://youtu.be/jFdSpevAemE , I set up two cans side by side — one bare can and one inside the Cooler Can Holder. Temperature probes were placed next to each other first and allowed to stabilize before starting the test.

It was noted that probe #2 (the Cooler Can Holder probe) consistently read about 1°F higher in ambient conditions. I chose not to correct for that because the difference was minor and I wanted to leave the raw readings alone. These are not calibrated laboratory probes, so this is likely just normal sensor tolerance. It’s also possible the readings were something like 73.4°F and 73.5°F and rounding simply made them appear 1°F apart.

The cans themselves were taken from the same cooler after sitting for several days, although one started slightly colder than the other. Since the purpose of the test was to compare warming rate over time, I offset the graph starting points to create a common visual reference point. This is a common approach when comparing two data sets with different starting values because it makes the rate comparison easier to see without changing the actual behavior of the curves.

Both cans were also left completely untouched during the test. In real-world use, heat transfer from your hand would contribute additional warming to the can itself, but that variable was intentionally left out to keep the test simple and repeatable.

The results showed a measurable difference throughout most of the test. The largest separation happened early on, where the bare can warmed noticeably faster. For roughly the first 2.5 hours, the Cooler Can Holder maintained temperatures around 4°F lower than the bare can.

My expectation going into this was that we would probably see a modest improvement, and I think that’s exactly what the data shows.

The conclusion is pretty straightforward:

Yes — it does help keep the drink colder longer.

Is 4°F meaningful? That’s up to the individual user to decide- this test was just about results, not about claims. For me personally, these have always been more about aesthetics, convenience, customization, and fun than insulation performance.

Ideally, multiple tests would be run with swapped probes, additional samples, and outdoor conditions. I still may do that, but this was mainly about properly answering a question people kept asking instead of just throwing out assumptions or marketing claims. I tend to be skeptic of claims that don't have data to back them up.
