Erin becomes a Category 5 hurricane, considered a catastrophic hurricane on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Maximum sustained winds near 160 mph have been reported by hurricane hunters and the pressure has dropped from 982mb on Sunday evening to 917mb currently.
The good news this storm will remain over open water before turning northward on Sunday and is expected to lose strength through the week. It will not affect the Bahamas or U.S. East Coast, other than high surf and dangerous rip currents.
