✨This week I have the honor of participating in the Radically Rural conference, where I’ll share the experience and impact of Planeta Venus in covering, including, and informing the Spanish-speaking community in rural areas of Kansas. 🌻📢

Talking about this work means talking about many stories, faces, and voices that deserve to be heard. It’s a reminder of why we do community journalism: so that no one is left out of the conversation. 💛

📢 Proud moment for Planeta Venus & the Latino community in Kansas!
I wanted to share this compelling article, “Viva la Infraestructura: Expanding Community Impact,” that highlights the work we’ve been doing to grow capacity, infrastructure, and opportunity across our region.

For those who have been part of our journey—volunteers, partners, funders, sponsors, staff, community members—GRACIAS. Your trust, encouragement, and backing make it possible for us to show up every day and do this work.

To all who believe in the strength of our Latino community—this is for you. Let’s keep building, bridging, and empowering together.

💬 Feel free to comment, share, or reach out if you want to get involved or learn more about future projects.

A growing Hispanic population in the U.S. deserves strong local newsrooms and infrastructure

For Fred Sosa, every note is a thread that ties his past to Wichita’s present and future. Through La Fiesta Norteña, he continues to honor his roots while opening doors for others to dance, connect, and feel at home in the music.

Wichita’s own Fred Sosa turned a lifetime of music into La Fiesta Norteña, a celebration of heritage, discipline, and community pride.

Today is the last day of the Heartland Conference on Health Equity and Patient-Centered Care 2025! 💙
Health leaders from across the region came together to talk about the challenges our communities face in accessing healthcare and to share innovative resources that are making a difference.

At Planeta Venus, health is one of the three pillars of our work, and we were so proud to be part of two sessions (one in English and one in Spanish). We also had the joy of reconnecting with many Latinas—community health workers—who are doing incredible outreach work in our communities. ¡Gracias por todo lo que hacen! 🙌

Congratulations to our Executive Director for this deserved recognition.

🟣 What has been your career path?
My career path has been deeply rooted in the belief that language is power and representation matters. I began in radio over two decades ago, using my voice to inform and connect Spanish-speaking audiences in Kansas. That experience led me to launch Planeta Venus, a bilingual media platform dedicated to elevating Latino voices through journalism, radio, and community engagement. Recognizing the communication gaps between institutions and the Latino community, I founded AB&C Bilingual Resources to bridge those divides. What started as a translation and media consulting service quickly evolved into a full-fledged bilingual marketing agency. We specialize in culturally relevant storytelling, transcreation, and community-centered campaigns that not only speak the language but also reflect the values, concerns, and aspirations of Latino families.

🟣 Who are your mentors and how have they influenced your career? My mentors have come from different corners of my life, some formal, others unexpected — but all have shaped the way I lead, communicate, and serve.

🟣 Best advice for a woman wanting to enter your field? Your voice, culture, and perspective are not only valuable — they are essential. Don’t shrink to fit into industry norms that were never built with you in mind. Instead, create space for the stories and communities you care about. Find mentors and collaborators who respect your voice, and don’t be afraid to launch your own platform or business if the doors you’re knocking on stay closed. I started AB&C Bilingual Resources because I saw a gap in how institutions were communicating with Latino communities. If the seat isn’t at the table, bring your own chair—or make a new table.
