Most of you have driven through the Wildwoods and strolled its boardwalk, but you may not know that you’ve walked and driven on something built by the Versaggi Brothers.
The Versaggi family—who journeyed from Sicily to Brazil and eventually to North Wildwood—played a vital yet often overlooked role in shaping the city. From bridges, roads, and water lines to the very foundations of homes, their work laid the groundwork for the community we know today.
Arriving in the early 1900s, Domenico “Papa Miko” Versaggi and his sons first fished the Atlantic before turning to construction. In 1920, they launched the Versaggi Brothers Construction Company, producing concrete blocks for homes and taking on major projects like the North Wildwood Boardwalk (built from 2nd to 26th in 1927). They also worked on curbs, sidewalks, sewers, and roads throughout Cape May County.
Through the Depression and beyond, the Versaggi Brothers left their mark not just in Wildwood, but across the region—from Grassy Sound Bridge to roads in Avalon and Sea Isle. Their company thrived until the 1980s, when the final generation retired.
Though their concrete plants are long gone, the family’s contributions live on in North Wildwood’s streets, structures, and stories. Six generations later, the Versaggi legacy remains a proud part of Wildwood history.
