This buck has quickly become one we're excited to watch. Those split brow tines give him a ton of character, and hopefully he'll stick around for another year or two. I'd love to see what he becomes with a little more age.
Now for today's lesson...
One thing I've learned over the years is that you don't always need the newest hunting gadget to get results.
There are countless scrape ropes, scents, and attractants on the market today. While some hunters have success with them, I've found that Mother Nature already provides one of the best options—a natural grapevine.
This vine scrape has been active for only about two weeks, and it's already been visited by hundreds of bucks. No scent was added. I simply hung a natural grapevine in a travel corridor along the edge of a soybean field and lightly pawed the ground underneath to create the scrape.
My theory is simple: deer have been interacting with natural vines for generations. They're already part of their environment, and in my experience, they work exceptionally well.
Sometimes the simplest setups produce the best results.
What really has me excited, though, is the buck himself. Those split brow tines give him a unique look, and he's already showing the kind of character that makes you pay attention. Hopefully he makes it through the next couple of seasons because I'd love to see what he turns into.
