We are less than a week away from Penelope’s farrowing. She is much bigger than her last go round, so I’m excited to see what all she has packed in there!

Her official due date is this Saturday, but can go as early as Wednesday so we are keeping a close eye on her.

Little Asher was showing off this morning! It’s amazing how quickly they find their little hops!

Our last two babies waiting for their new owners to pick them up are the biggest and smallest out of the litter. Little Magnolia seems even smaller than she really is next to Ms Shayla, who is just a super chonk 😅. Both will end up going home this week and we will be piglet free for a day or two before Penelope farrows.

Oh how I’ve enjoyed this litter, but I’m excited to see them off on their new adventures with their families.

Good morning from little Asher!

Yesterday was the hardest kidding experiences I’ve had to date. Baby was malpositioned with his neck back and turned almost upside down which would not allow him to come through the birth canal on his own. If you have ever assisted a Nigerian dwarf in labor, you know their canal is very small, so getting to the baby and correcting him was very very difficult. Mama and I were wore out afterwards, and I gave her some antibiotics and pain meds and thankfully both are doing wonderful this morning. Millie is up eating and drinking and letting little guy nurse. And he is running around making his presence known to all in a 1 mile radius 🤣

Farming is not Pinterest boards and nice ascetic’s. It’s hard, painful and tiring. But so worth every moment of stress in the long run.

Here’s to an eventful new year! May our next kidding in two weeks be not quite as eventful as this was. 😅

Well yall, Millie decided that we are going to keep the tradition of holiday babies and delivered this beautiful buckling! We had a rough go getting him into this world but he and mama both seem to be doing well at the moment.

Little guy is going to need a name appropriate for this day, so drop your best name suggestions below!

*UPDATE* deposit received!

Through no fault of her own, our little Pickles has became available for purchase.

This sweet little girl is fully cream except for one unique spot in her side. Double wattled and very friendly, she’s a great Kunekune to add to your farm for the new year.

She will be ready for pick up as soon as this weekend, so message me if interested!

It’s definitely been a busy weekend full of farm chores. This room was once a potato cellar before we moved here. Those that have been with us long enough will remember that It then became a temporary shelter when we brought home Margie two years ago. It then got its first remodel last year when our goats first started going into labor, but it was not where it needed to be.

We now have one full enclosed stall, and a small creep area. Sure I’d love to have two full stalls but for our needs, this is what is appropriate at this time. Is it finished? Heck no! Honestly, Is farm work ever really done? But it will get us through this season. Delilah had to check it out right away and she even snuggled in under the heat lamp while I finished cleaning up all the tools.

Should I paint the block with a sealer to help brighten the room up? Or should I leave it as is? Thoughts, and suggestions appreciated!

The first doe due on our kidding roster is Ms. Millie. She’s notorious for twins, and such a great mama, that I just l cannot wait to see what she produces. She was brought down to the birthing pen last night to settle in until her due date and doing great. Here is to new years babies! 🙌💕

In anticipation of our upcoming goat and pig birthing marathon , we moved petunia and her remaining piglets out of the birthing pen, and into the larger farrowing lot. Due to the upcoming cold weather snap, we also converted an old IBC tote insert into a warming tote . The piglets are in love with it! My hope is we can use it for the baby goats as well once they start popping out.

Still a bunch to do today to prep the birthing pen for the marathon, but I’m excited to have babies on the farm again! What are your plans for the weekend?
