Project: The Platform Cafe Crowdfunder
Client: The Platform Cafe
Brief: 60 second Instagram post promo video for a community café in South London to update their followers on how the crowdfund is going, what they’re going to be able to do with the money, and inviting people to visit once restrictions are lifted on 12 April.
Pre-production: I had a kick off meeting with the clients to tease out the brief and the message they wanted to get across. I then came up with 3 video proposals and soundtracks for them to choose from. At the next meeting we discussed specific content ideas and planned the logistics for the shoot. Charlotte (the client) wanted to freestyle for the voiceover as opposed to reading from a script, so I asked her to sketch out roughly the points she wanted to get across and send them over to me in advance so I could plan the correct interview questioning. Finally, just before we started shooting, Charlotte and I had another chat to finalise the message of this video which would guide me on how I would eventually edit the interview & voiceover.
Production: I directed and shot the main interview piece and the cutaways over 2-3 hours using a Panasonic Lumix GH4, 25mm f/1.4, 12-35mm f/2.8 and 25mm vintage TV Lens. All sound was captured on-location with a Zoom H1n and Rode lavalier mic.
Post-production:
Stage one was editing the main interview down to 60 seconds, mixing the audio and adding the soundtrack, which I then sent to the client for their sign off. Stage two was adding the cutaways, branding, animated captions/infographics and colour-grading. The client then gave feedback on this for the final cut. Editing all done on Da Vinci Resolve.
The project was a great example of how I can take a project from end-to-end and help a client get their message out in a way that is creative and true to their brand.
