Merry Christmas, friends! It’s been a wonderful holiday season, but a true highlight was wandering the Christkindlmarkt in Cullman, Alabama full of lights, tradition, and old-world charm. I had no idea it was dog friendly or Stella would have been there with bells on celebrating her German heritage 🔔🐶🎅

My former classmate .cyndi is now a professor and was awarded a grant to study preservation , and lucky me got to go as student! It was such a cool experience seeing behind the scenes from the cellar to the cupola and all the rooms in between, including a sneak peek at George & Martha’s bedroom which has been restored and makes its debut next week!

Along with , we explored Williamsburg, DC, and Baltimore! It was a whirlwind trip where each day we walked miles and saw so much. It was so fun to site see with classmates and discuss all that we’ve learned over the last few years and made me wish we’d had more field trips together. I do plan on making some more in depth posts, but here are the highlights!

As part of my Masters of Fine Art final practicum , I’m researching how showhouses can serve as creative marketing tools for historic properties. Part of why I chose this topic is because to do proper research, I’d need to visit other successful examples! My first case study was a visit Labor Day Weekend to the 28th Annual presented by the Cashiers Historical Society in North Carolina.

Each visit is part of my qualitative case study research, a blend of field observation and analysis that looks at everything from interior design and event programming to branding, partnerships, digital storytelling, and logistics of putting on a showhouse.

I’m studying how these projects attract visitors, sponsors, and community support, and how those lessons can translate to other historic entities in preserving and telling their architectural heritage.

The insights gathered will help shape the upcoming .frank.showhouse in Starkville, Mississippi, opening Spring 2026!

A look back at my first two days in Las Vegas for my cousin’s ’s wedding last week🥂 Once upon a time in my 20s, Vegas was home, and being back feels like running into an old friend. She’s still glittering after all these years✨

Jess is wonderful at planning events and her welcome dinner at Barry’s Prime at the Circa Hotel downtown on Fremont Street was so special! 🎰💃🏼

A long weekend in Charleston where every building and detail is a treat for the eyes! From the Charleston style porches to the window boxes, every detail is full of southern charm. Charleston is also home to the oldest community-based preservation organization in the country, the Preservation Society of Charleston, founded in 1920. Proof that beauty and history don’t survive by accident 💁‍♀️❤️

✨ See St. Mary's Chapel for yourself! You won’t find another chapel like this one in the rural South!

St. Mary’s Chapel, located just south of Natchez, Mississippi, is a one-of-a-kind Gothic treasure tucked away in the woods along the river. Normally closed to the public and sitting on private land, this is your rare chance to step inside.

Once a year, the owners graciously open the doors to visitors, and that opportunity is coming up soon:

📍 1051 Lower Woodville Rd, Natchez, MS 39120
🗓️ October 25 & 26, from 1–4 pm
👉🏼 Free admission—no tickets or registration required

This is not my event, so I can’t answer questions- but if you go, please tag me in your photos! I’d love to see this extraordinary place through your eyes.

Even on a gray, dreary day, was a beautiful site! I visited yesterday during a trip to Charleston, South Carolina and was so in love the Palladian style architecture. The balance and simplicity are so picturesque!

This plantation home was built about 1750 near the Ashley River. It was built as a Palladian five-part plan, with colonnade walls connecting the main house to two brick flanker buildings, but only the main house (and a privy!) remain. It took over 360,000 hand-made bricks to construct Drayton Hall, and architectural pattern books were used to design the home. One of the most formal rooms has the oldest hard carved plaster ceiling in North America that is stunning 🤩. Drayton Hall is interesting in that it is being preserved as is but is not being restored.

Now owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation , Drayton Hall is not only open daily for tours, but also an active archeological site. Love it when I see a place on my bucket list!

🧺✨A basket with a story! This handwoven beauty was crafted by Lomi, an artisan in India through

I love that it is made with heritage techniques and that each artisan earns 2.5x fair trade wages. Plus, each piece includes an artisan card with the maker’s name, photo & signature that you can look up online via a code on the back of the card and then send a personal note! It’s a unique way to connect with someone new ❤️

Ten by Three helps artisans not only support their families, but also launch small businesses of their own, creating independence and lasting prosperity. Many of these artisans had previously not even been taught to sign their name, so now they are able to open bank accounts and sign legal documents on their own. They are currently working to end poverty in 7 countries worldwide.

It’s more than a basket. Its connection, empowerment, and artistry woven together. Plus, their products are so beautiful and make great gifts for the upcoming holiday season.
