What you're about to see is a series called Dream Shot Playhouse. Dream Shot Playhouse brings back to the style and quality of dramatic storytelling introduced and perfected during the golden years of television. Our screenplays follow the common theme of exploring human nature through well-developed characters and creative story concepts. The playhouse draws upon the classic storytelling and television production styles evolved from shows like Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Playhouse 90, Kraft Television Theatre, Goodyear TV Playhouse, Texaco Star Theatre and The Twilight Zone.
Dream Shot Playhouse follows a unique one set storytelling and production approach. We think it's a rather special kind of series. Essentially, people watch television to get entertained. And the keynote of this series, the thing we're concerned with, the thing we're aiming for, the thing we're working toward, is entertainment. This is a series for the storyteller, because it's our thinking that an audience will always sit still and listen and watch a well-told story. And now that we've immodestly gone on record predicting the high quality of this series, let us very briefly show you what we mean by a special kind of series. You know, writers in general are notoriously bad verbal tellers of stories. We do much, much better at a keyboard. So we hope you'll bear with us while we tell you about a few stories that happen to be the first ones we're shooting in our current production cycle.
Beyond Bars is about Charles McElroy, a man sentenced to death row for a crime he didn't commit. His confinement takes place in a prison cell. It's the story about a man slowly succumbing to a kind of nightmarish loneliness, a gradual disintegration of mind and body, because human beings have that palpable need for companionship. A most benevolent and compassionate official sends the prisoner a rectangular box containing, well, a machine, a machine inside of a robot built in the form of a woman. It's a robot that talks and acts like a human being. A robot that thinks like a human being. I can only tell you that Beyond Bars, which involves a man and a woman made out of plastic and wires with a machine for a heart, will provide a most bizarre experience as to the physiological extensions of their relationship.
In the first episode, death row inmate Charles McElroy finds his destiny in the most unusual way. In future episodes our audience will be introduced to characters that find courage to stand up against power; men whose arrogance finds them making life and death wagers; tyrant societies that can tumble on the principles of one man; how intolerant cultures can find common ground and start again; men and women who find life's true meaning when faced with imminent apocalyptic death and worlds where humans exercise their right to live free of violence.
We hope we haven't done these stories an injustice, because they'll be much better told by actors in front of a camera. All we can tell you is that we think Dream Shot Playhouse is pretty unique. We think it'll be much talked about, and we think it'll also be enjoyed. We think it's the kind of a show that will put people on the edge of their seats, but only for that one half an hour. We think it's that kind of a show.
In the pilot show of our series, Jason Daniel Thompson and Claudia Troy star in Beyond Bars. So, please sit back and take your first trip to the Dream Shot Playhouse.
