Another survival tool source are toilets aka Johnstone lol. Toilets, especially older ones, are made from pretty high quality porcelain and they knap decently well. I found this piece in the creek and the pale green glaze indicated it was probably from the 1950s

I knapped this point out a while back out of a blue mason jar bottom. An antique store had a few of them for a few dollars each. Glass is an underrated survival tool because its so accessible. A piece of glass and a small hammerstone is all you need to create a cutting tool

I wanted to make something paleo/early Archaic with all the bigger pieces of Keokuk I got and this piece definitely cooperated. I was able to keep the bigger percussion scars and still have some decent pressure flaking.

How I started my flintknapping journey...

I've had a lifelong interest in history and have found a few broken arrowheads throughout the years. Around 2021, I started looking around more seriously for artifacts and still didn't find much...

Watching YouTube videos on arrowhead hunting led me to flintknapping videos. The process really intrigued me and I started trying to knap various rocks I found

The stones I was working on weren't very conducive to knapping and I was starting to get discouraged. I ordered some Pedernales chert and the first big flake I took off hooked me for life

I had no actual knapping tools initially, just hammerstones and nails for pressure flaking. Over the years I've acquired more tools and refined the homemade ones I use

I still have much to learn and room for improvement but its crazy to see my initial points compared to ones now. I hope I can say the same thing in 5 years about the points I make now

This piece was working great until I made a bad hit in the middle. There was a crusty area that needed to come off and I hit it too hard. I still can make points from the pieces so not all is lost

Chipped on some more Keokuk this evening. This piece was a bit lower grade than the stuff yesterday but still worked good. Starting to get used to knapping on a pad too

I made this Dalton style point out of the big biface I made at the demonstration. I had a few issues with hinges towards the end but thankfully I got most of them out
