Day #5 in Boone, NC, day #4 with Samaritans Purse. We have much to be thankful for and today was filled with many emotions. Our Samaritans Purse team joyfully served Nola today by digging out her drainage ditch, cutting up some fallen trees and gathering up the debris the water left behind. We were gifted a traditional Thanksgiving lunch by a church, delivered by the sheriff's department. Near Nola's home is an area that was devastated by flooding water and the worst destruction we have seen during our time in the area. It was heartbreaking to see. With today being our last day with our team members, we said good bye to our new friends. It's amazing how serving alongside one another connects you together so quickly.

Tomorrow we head for home with sore bodies but with blessed hearts & souls.

Day #4 in Boone, NC, day #3 with Samaritans Purse. Today we did more tree clean up! Our first stop, the home of Ms. Virginia, was a fairly quick cleanup as our team is well versed on what to do. Our second home was in an area that a tornado went through. There were fallen trees everywhere. Our team worked hard and made a significant dent in the damage and thankfully a fresh group of volunteers arrived about 3pm, when our group was mostly exhausted. Our drive back took us through many small towns that suffered significant damage which is still incredible even though we have been seeing it for three days now. .

Day #3 in Boone, NC, day #2 with Samaritans Purse. Today we did tree cleanup and bridge/river restoration for Ms. Cheryl, a former teacher. The tree had fallen on the steep slope behind her house. Andy was one of the chainsaw operators. Many rocks were moved in order to attempt to restore the flow of the river under the bridge. Large rocks had pushed against the bridge on the left side creating a dam of pooling water that slowly moved under the bridge. Our second home we went to needed a large fallen tree cleanup. Andy ran a chainsaw again! The owners of this home have served many ministries including Samaritans Purse. Mr Ed had an abundance of information to share! Some of our team members headed home when we were finished today. April, I hope our journeys intersect again some day!

Day #2 in Boone, NC, day #1 with Samaritans Purse. We helped clean up a house & property today. We may not be able to walk tomorrow!

Day #1 - church at The Rock, went for a short drive around Boone & saw unbelievable destruction, made a couple new friends (see photo). We had to get the truck washed as it snowed significantly before we arrived yesterday & the roads were salted well. The farm we are staying at has Spookie & Pookie in the photo, lots of alpacas, cows & chickens.
