📚🚸 Back to School Reminder 🚸📚

Wood County students return to school Wednesday, August 20th, to begin the 2025–2026 school year. As you head to work or other destinations, please use extra caution—the safety of our students is our top priority.

✅ Expect increased traffic in school zones during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
✅ Many students will also be walking to and from school—please be patient, kind, and alert.
✅ Officers will have increased patrols and monitoring in school zones throughout the year.

🚌 School Bus Safety Reminder:
It is West Virginia law to stop in both directions when a school bus has its warning lights and stop signals activated.

Do not proceed until the bus begins moving again or the driver signals you to go.

This law applies to streets, highways, parking lots, and private roads.

🚨 Penalties for illegally passing a stopped school bus:

1st Offense: $500–$1,000 fine and/or up to 6 months in jail

2nd Offense: Minimum $1,000 fine and/or up to 6 months in jail

3rd Offense: Minimum $2,000 fine + 48 hours to 6 months in jail
