We love a good Cat video...

Here you can learn more about the efforts in Massachusetts to create a Health Care Trust where all residents of MA will be covered by a single payer health care trust fund. This fund will provide comprehensive, quality, and equitable health care, publicly financed and free of out-of-pocket costs and out of control insurance costs.

It is really worth learning about!

The Massachusetts Health Care Trust would put a stop to the rising costs of health care and be financed with existing Federal and State revenue plus four taxes that would replace insurance premiums, co-pays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket payments.

Each tax will have a $20,000 exemption AND retirement income
WILL NOT be taxed:
1.Employers will pay 7.5 - 8% of payroll depending on size
2.Employees will pay a 2.5% tax on wages and salaries
Employers could agree to pay the employee share without it
being counted as income to employees
3.The self-employed will pay 10% of income
4.Unearned income (e.g., capital gains, dividends, and interest)
will be taxed at 10%

BOTTOM LINE: 98% of Massachusetts households will spend less on health care costs under this new Health Care Trust than they do now.

Student Reporter Jack Uhas has just published a report on the June 10th School Committee meeting.

The Mount Greylock Regional School District School Committee met Wednesday, June 10th, following the adoption of the district's FY 26-27 budget in both Lanesborough's and Williamstown's town meetings. In addition to Williamstown residents approving an almost $17 million budget for the District, they...

Learn more about Remote Open Town Meeting

The bill, H.2274, the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts is supporting will allow towns that use open (not representative) town meeting to adopt a hybrid system that would permit residents to fully participate on a remote basis has been tabled for this legislative session.

Advocates for this system are trying to pass a pilot program provision that would allow up to five towns (WILLIAMSTOWN SHOULD BE ONE) to experiment with remote open town meeting. This action is necessary because current law in Massachusetts requires open town meetings to be in-person only. That requirement makes it difficult for many people to participate in their town government.

Learn more about this initiative and start talking to to town officials and ask them to support efforts for a pilot program testing full remote participation—speaking, listening and voting—in town meeting.

Such a program would not cost the state anything. To see how such a remote system could work, take a look at this LWVMA webinar: “Open Town Meeting—Remote and Secure.”

"The board long has discussed the complex set of regulations as being out of date and cumbersome to both potential developers and the board itself, which has needed to hear requests for waivers of outdated rules for the handful of residential subdivisions that have been proposed in town in recent years."

"The Planning Board will continue considering all parts of the subdivision bylaw, from road construction to curb requirements, at its next regular meeting on Tuesday, June 9."

Hey cool cats....you may have read our article on All Party Primaries and be interested in learning more. Well there is an opportunity coming up this FRIDAY.

This Friday, Danielle Allen will be a guest on Jim Braude and Margery Eagan's show on Boston Public Radio, one of Massachusetts' most influential daily talk shows.

The conversation will begin at approximately 11:00 AM, and they would love to have supporters of All-Party Primaries and democracy reform tuning in and even attending in person if you're able. She will be joined by Robert Kuttner and it is not a debate, but a conversation. The show is live at the Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston Street, First Floor

This is a great opportunity to help raise awareness about All-Party Primaries and the broader movement to strengthen democracy in Massachusetts. Having supporters in the audience and engaged with the program demonstrates the energy behind these reforms.

If you're able:
Listen live on Friday at after 11:00 AM on your NPR station.

A ballot question heading toward Massachusetts voters this November could change how every state election works — and Berkshire County's unusual political makeup makes it worth paying close attention.
