Was at this small party recently with friends, and after a couple hours I was tired and wanted to go home. I didn't live too far, maybe a 15min walk. But it was nighttime, I was a bit tipsy and overall way too scared to go by myself. I'm a pretty small girl, and I've had very bad experiences with walking alone at night, so I didn't feel safe going home by myself.

So I asked a male friend, pretty big and imposing guy, if he could just walk me home. The party seemed kinda over already and I wasn't the only one leaving, so I didn't think it was too big of a deal to ask him that. He immediately seemed super annoyed and I felt bad for asking, but another friend gave him s__t for not going with me so he ended up reluctantly agreeing to walk me home.

The walk must've taken no less than twenty minutes but it felt like an hour. He was super distant, complained the whole way through and basically laughed at me for being scared. Said he was missing out on the fun because I was too much of a p***y. I didn't say a word and felt like crying. Which I did when I got home. I'd also gotten a bunch of drunk texts from guys at the party, again giving me s__t for being so scared. I felt so horrible and stupid.

Now I'm wondering if I was an a__hole or not. Didn't seem like a big deal to me in the moment but it clearly was to them. Feels like I ruined their fun by being such a c__ard.

edit: I fully accept being the a__hole for my poor planning, I have issues with that stuff but that doesn't excuse it. I really don't know how I expected to leave, I just figured I'd find a way but that's stupid. It was just s__tty of me to put myself in that situation. You guys mentionned rideshares, stuff like that, but it's barely a thing in my town and I'm honestly very paranoid about getting in a stranger's car. That leaves walking, and yeah I should probably carry more than a couple knives. I'll try to find pepper spray or something.

edit2: I was i__oxicated, driving myself home wouldn't have been an option. Also no, the post about a guy asking his friend out and not walking her home isn't him, weird coincidence I guess.

I love to cook. I make dinner every night for myself (f in my 30s), my husband (m in his 30s), and our son (m 4). I don’t typically make things that take 100 dishes or leave a massive mess but there’s usually a couple of pots and pans, some utensils, and a cutting board. After I plate up our meals and serve we all eat together. My son is old enough to rinse his plate and put it in the dishwasher. My husband always does the same. I end up with all the the cooking dishes myself. I have brought this up to my husband and asked if he could do the dishes after I cook as I’m tired from doing the cooking. He says that since I made the mess I should deal with it myself. I was mad but didn’t ask again. The next night I made dinner that was just enough for me and my son. None for husband. He was confused. I told him if he wasn’t going to do his part for the meal then he could make his own. I think this is fair! If he thinks cleaning our dishes from our shared meal that I worked to make then he can handle his own food! So am I the a__hole?

More info: I am not a stay at home parent. We both work full time and I handle most of the house and kid stuff. His job is manual labor and mine is a desk job.

AITA for Ignoring My Mom When She Uses My Old Name in Public?

I’m not the type of person who’d ask strangers for advice but I’m genuinely too embarrassed to tell my friends. I’m also terribly guilt ridden and confused. One minute I think I’m fully in the right and the next I think I’m being horrible.

My parents died four months ago due to long standing health issues and old age, my mother first and then three weeks later my father. My parents had two sons and one daughter. I’m 38, my brothers are 46 and 47. My brothers lived at my parents house. All their lives our parents catered to them hand and foot. They fed their egos three meals a day. As they aged it became harder and harder, eventually they were just worn out by my brothers. Throughout the last few years my parents tried to set boundaries but my brothers took it as a declaration of war. In the end they pretty much lived in fear of my brothers.

When my parents died they left me the house and some money, I was truly surprised. I like everyone else assumed my brothers would get it all. They left a letter saying they greatly regretted having favored my brothers and for having to rely on me in their old age and as compensation for having financially supported them the past 15 years they left me the house and for 525 thousand of insurance payouts to be divided between the three of us. They acknowledged in the letter that they know the house and my 175 thousand doesn’t come close to financially compensating me but they hoped it at least helped. My plans are to use my share of the inheritance to fix up the house. It’s an old house and it needs considerable amount of work to bring it up to code.

My brothers had no intentions in helping me with the house. They continued being lazy, arrogant and entitled. I continued to pay all the utility bills and whatever else the house needed. I couldn’t afford to keep paying. I asked them to move out several times and they flat out refused.

My brothers also went through their inheritance like it was nothing. They are quickly running out of money. They bought cars, went to Vegas and just spent like there was no tomorrow. I had enough of trying to be reasonable and I demolished half of the house while they were on their cruise. My brothers went on a cruise last month and during their time away I packed all their things into two storage units and I paid 6 months in advance for them and then I just let the construction crew start working on the house. My brothers returned to a construction site. They called and texted me a few hundred times but I never picked up. Eventually they got other family members to call me. Everyone is making me out to be a monster. Apparently I’m a terrible sister and that my parents would be disappointed in me for leaving my brothers homeless and living in a motel.

I feel like I’ve done enough for them. I’ve supported them in some way or another my whole life. I tried to be reasonable but they are unreasonable and insanely entitled.

I realize the title might be a bit confusing so let me try to clear up the background first. I M(43) had a wife previous to my current wife. My late wife sadly passed away due to illness around 5 years ago and her sister has been coming around daily since then to help out with my kids by picking them up from school, playing with them, helping them with homework, etc..

She has basically taken the mother role on herself for my two kids currently M(6) and F(11). I married my current wife a few months ago, and she doesn’t work because my salary is high enough for the whole family to live comfortable lives. Now my wife has decided that we don’t need my SIL to be coming around anymore because she can perform all the typical stay at home mom duties herself and because SIL doesn’t technically even live with us.

I talked to my wife about this multiple times and have told her that my SIL is very important to my children and they are still related to her even if her sister is no longer around.

Now here’s the main issue: yesterday when my SIL went to pick my kids up from school she found out that my wife had already gone earlier in the day and pulled them out of school just so she could be the one to take my kids home and play with my kids and help them with their homework.

When my SIL showed up at the house to confront her, my wife called the cops on my SIL and said she was trespassing. I didn’t know about any of this till I got a call from the police station and had to go explain the situation to the cops and pick my SIL up.

When I got back to my house I got into a fight with my wife and told her that my SIL will always have a place over her in my kids lives. My wife was furious about this and went to go stay with her parents. She hasn’t come back yet.

Now I know why my wife is upset with me, but my SIL stepped into our family after a tragedy and while we technically don’t NEED her, we all still see her as part of our immediate family. I want her and my wife to be able to get along and coexist because I want them both in my family, but if it comes down to it I will keep my SIL over my wife.

So… AITA?

Feel free to ask clarifying questions and I’ll answer them when I can. I’m currently at work so I might not get to them right away.

I (32F) was engaged to marry “Travis” (33M). But a couple of weeks before the wedding was supposed to take place, he said that he didn’t want to get married. I asked him if he was cheating and he said no. He told me that most of his friends were already marrying or starting families, so he thought it was time to settle down, but he had just realized that he didn’t want to do it. Suffice to say, the wedding was cancelled and that was the end of our relationship.

It's been about a year since that happened. Things haven’t been exactly great, but I’ve managed. Well, some days ago, I received an invitation to the wedding of my cousin “Taylor” (26F). Imagine my surprise when I read it and saw that my ex-fiance was the groom. I had only seen them barely interact during family meetings. I hadn’t noticed any clue that pointed to anything happening between the two of them all this time.

Some info about my cousin. She’s what some people would call a “free spirit”. She doesn’t have a conventional job, she works as an artist. She dyes her hair in unusual colors (sometimes blue, sometimes green, for example) and dresses extravagantly (once she wore a white robe, another time she wore a black leather jacket and spiked boots). She says that she doesn’t like following society’s rules, and that she only follows her own code.

Immediately, I called my parents. I asked them if they had known something about Taylor’s relationship with Travis. To summarize, yes, they did, they hadn’t intended on telling me because they figured out there would be no positive outcome to it, but they also made it clear that they expected me to come to the wedding anyway in order to show support to my family. At this point I lost it, and shouted that they were delusional if they believed that I would go to the wedding of my cheating liar ex and his manic pixie dream girl. They said that I can’t keep holding on to my h__red and resentment forever, and that I need to let go, but I hang up.

My extended family has been blowing up my phone since then, saying that I’m a bad person if I don’t attend. Right now I feel so confused, betrayed and disappointed. I’m no longer sure if I’m being irrational or not. So I think it might be best to ask for an outside point of view. AITA?

ETA:

Holy s__t, I can't believe it, I go away for a few hours and find so many comments! To clear up some questions, the main reason I doubted was because my family is tight-knit and traditional, and my parents raised me to believe that family comes before everything else. But y'all helped me realize that my feelings are valid. Thank you, everyone!
