Feeding Howell County kids while D.C. stalls

As the federal government shutdown continues and faraway decision-makers decide when, if, and how food assistance funding will be released, Howell County school districts say they are committed to keeping kids fed at school.

“Kids don’t learn if they are hungry,” said Dr. Wesley Davis.

LAST CALL FOR VETERANS DAY PHOTO SUBMISSIONS!

Today, Friday, Nov. 7, is the last day to submit a photo of yourself or your favorite veteran to be featured in the Veterans Day issue of Howell County News. Drop off your photos at the news office by 5:00 p.m. or email them to [email protected].
When submitting a photo, please include the veteran’s name, branch, rank, and dates of service. Stories of favorite memories in service and places traveled will also be gratefully accepted.

Senior tax credits pull $236k from schools, fire departments

The first year’s numbers are in, and in Howell County, property tax credits for seniors are going to pull $236,387.66 from local schools, fire departments, and ambulance districts.

SHARE YOUR PHOTO - Howell County youth hunters and those with local ties are encouraged to send in their youth deer harvest photos and information for print in an upcoming edition of the Howell County News.

Include this information:
• the hunter’s name, age and city of residence,
• parents' names,
• who he or she was hunting with if they were hunting with an adult,
• the date the deer was killed,
• the general area where it was killed,
• whether the deer was a doe or buck,
• how many points the rack had
• how the hunter is connected to Howell County, if it’s not otherwise obvious; and
• any other interesting information.

Email photos to [email protected] or bring them to the News office during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday).
