What a great day at Sonoma Raceway. Once I figured out how to stay out of traffic I surprised myself with an awesome new PB. Taking 1.24 sec off my time May last year and 2.19 seconds off my last visit in July last year. Same tires one year later.

Last year I put in seven track days, and for 2026 I’ve only done two. Based on how things are looking, those will be my only two this year. I have to say going to the track hasn’t been quite as much fun without the motivation of new PB‘s, I felt like I was at a plateau. I was worried my skill had leveled out and i couldn’t get more out of this car with the experience and testicular fortitude that I had. We know it can go faster as demonstrated by Johnny Huang ontrack_offroad and Pierre-Edouard but not with me driving!
I truly believe that learning the challenges of a driving simulator helped i@prove my driving on the track. Not just seat time, but using the sim to highlight my weaknesses which is what the sim does well.

The GT4 has been such an amazing car and never lets me down. What a privilege to experience it this way!

Thanks to Alekshop for a great alignment and sway bar setup. Thanks to Cadillac V-Club, Phill xxessiv.ctsv and Michelle for getting us all together. Also, shoutout to Hooked On Driving NorCal for running a good event.

New Sonoma PB for me! What a blast. I knew I could shave a second off of last year’s 1:47.81. My optimal was 1:46.56. After a couple sessions with traffic the system determined I could still have that 1:46 if I could piece it together. On the 3rd session I decided to lead the pack so I wouldn’t be slowed by traffic. After the outlet I put in the work and lost my mind when I saw the lap time hit 1:45.62! Very pleased! That’s on RE71RS tires with 2 track days on them.

It was time to pull my BMC filters and see how they looked. They had a lot of very fine black dust. To me it seemed like evaporated tire.

The detergent that comes with the kit did a good job. I suggest getting a spray nozzle to attach to the bottle. It will make it easier to apply the detergent, but they do include a dish soap type ni**le. The black crud was really stuck to my wash bucket after washing.

After letting the filter dry for 24 hours outside, I re-oiled them. I’ve done this before with previous filters. Another brand would tell you exactly how many milliliters you should apply to each filter model, but BMC just says.” twice over each pleat on each side of the filter.” Of course I can’t get to the inside of this one and to me, I know that under oiling is probably better than over oiling as there are rumors of the oil causing issues with MAF sensors, yet I’ve never had that problem in any of my cars. For me a properly oiled filter is one that is not dripping oil and is not very oily to the touch.

Apparently, BMC offers aerosol cans of oil, that would’ve been a lot easier. A trigger sprayer on this bottle would probably work as well, but I didn’t have another one.

One kit cleaned both of my GT4 filters, and maybe if I was a little more careful it could do it twice. But I don’t have enough oil for the next cleaning.
