Winnetka officials agreed this week to update the village's solar-panel regulations, hoping to make it easier for residents to install the green amenity.

In an effort to make Winnetka more environmentally friendly, the Village Council has updated its zoning guidelines for the installation of solar panels on private homes. Trustees unanimously voted to waive introduction and approve the updates following a public hearing at the council’s regular mee...

In this week's pod, Michal and Joe recap a successful state weekend for local swimmers — most of whom are underclassmen. NT coach Mac Guy joins to tell us more about the Trevians' fourth-place efforts.

And that ends our fall season, so we get more into hoops chatter as games start this week.

But wait wait, we can't just stop talking football, not with all the wild results from this past weekend and big semifinal matchups coming up.

A young New Trier swim/dive team made a splash at the state finals, racing to fourth place with a mostly underclassmen lineup. We talk who came through and what does it mean for the Trevians future. L

After scaling back its beachfront plans earlier this year, the Village of Kenilworth is now scaling them back up

Community contributions have led to more amenities being added back into the project

A new wave of funding will revive an element of Kenilworth’s beach improvement project that appeared to be water under the bridge. Kenilworth trustees during their Monday, Nov. 17 meeting approved a resolution increasing the total maximum price by approximately half-a-million dollars for the next ...

In this month's architecture column, Susan and Bob look at the streamlining movement and a special building in Skokie that now anchors a rare North Shore industrial park.

No one thinks of the North Shore suburbs as industrial yet one of the great streamlined Art Moderne buildings in the Chicago area is an office/industrial structure located in Skokie. In 1941, G.D. Searle and Company, founded in 1888, built its company headquarters on a 5-acre site, tripling the size...

A serious water main break brought plenty of attention to Skokie earlier this year.

On Monday, village trustees heard the results of a months-long investigation into what caused the emergency.

A wet drive can be concerning, especially when the source isn’t coming from above. Earlier this year, a driver happened upon that phenomenon in Skokie. Seeing water coming up from ground, the driver called the Village of Skokie. That call uncovered a headline-making problem that forced extended bo...

More than a dozen different candidates running for federal and state office gathered Sunday afternoon inside a Jewish community center in Northbrook, and after each claimed a table, spread out their various campaign flyers, cards and buttons.  The event, organized by the Chicago Jewish Alliance and...

Local swimmers were among the state's best at the IHSA finals over the weekend.

A Loyola Academy sophomore and a Highland Park junior took home some hardware.

Loyola Academy’s trip to the IHSA swim and dive championships didn’t get off to a good start on Friday, but coach Greg Hartman was proud of the Ramblers at the end on Saturday, Nov. 15, in Westmont. Loyola was disqualified in the first event of the weekend, 200-yard medley relay preliminary, and...

Lego and Sweetgreen are prepared to open locations at Old Orchard, as well as some others.

The additions will arrive just in time for the mall's holiday events schedule.

A handful of new businesses will soon open in Westfield Old Orchard Mall in the coming weeks, just as the Skokie shopping center is set to host a variety of holiday-themed events.  The clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch will open a store in a “newly refreshed space” inside the mall ahead of ...

A fourth-place finish may not seem like a happy ending for New Trier swim/dive standards. But for a team that graduated a load of high-end talent, the Trevians defied expectations at the state finals on Saturday.

The bus ride home from the state championships likely sounded different this year for New Trier girls swimming and diving. From the deck of the FMC Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 15, Trevians head coach Mac Guy was looking forward to it. “It’s kind of fun when (we) can walk away being happy with w...

"This is a place and an event where the people feel seen, they feel like there’s a belonging."

Avoca 37's flagship event is as important as ever in 10th year.

Ten years ago, the Avoca School District 37 community decided to come together in celebration of all the cultures that make up the diverse school district. And on Friday evening, Nov. 14, that tradition continued, with students and their families filling the Marie Murphy School gymnasium for the ina...
