One of our favorite regulars, a Wilmington native who grew up frequenting our building when it was Halls Drugstore, came in one night recently, disappointed that his Eastern NC Fish Stew source was no longer making it.

Dale grew up eating fish stew. His dad and his uncles used to make it with their catch, and eating it took him back to a simpler time. Dale told us how his family made it, and James recreated it to the best of his ability. When he thought he got it right, James called Dale to come in and try it. He brought his family in and they sat down at the bar and each ordered it. After he finished, with a big smile on his face, Dale said “this stew made me love my town again.” That’s a sentence we’ll always remember. ❤️

Our Dale-approved stew is back tonight. Come try what eastern NC nostalgia tastes like.
