What's poised to become Imelda remains likely to be part of a "tug of war" of sorts. Most guidance suggests an old front / upper low will guide it toward or jam it into the Carolinas early next week; there's still a chance Humberto will help it to pivot away.

Q: What's the most likely case for the eastern Carolinas?
A: Essentially, it'd be a movie we've seen before... The front (and related upper-level low) reels Imelda in for heavy rain, some lowland flooding, widespread gusts to at least tropical storm-force, isolated tornadoes, and significant marine issues. By the way, a reasonable expectation for Imelda's top central strength seems to be upper-end tropical storm or lower-end hurricane.

Q: Is there a chance Imelda is a miss?
A: A not-as-likely but still reasonable solution allows Humberto (which is likely to stay well offshore in any case) to gain enough strength and influence to leverage Imelda east (the "Fujiwhara Effect" you may have been hearing about). While this scenario may still offer the eastern Carolinas some gusty rain and marine issues, they'd generally be less than in the primary case.

Q: What's the move for this weekend, then?
