On April 25, UNCW Professor James T. Farley held an open invitation event in the Cultural Arts Building to showcase his almost forgotten craft, Tintype Photography. Farley is an Australian artist and teacher based in Wilmington, now locally revered as a Tintype connoisseur. The method was first invented by Adolphe-Alexandre Martin in 1853 and was most used in Civil-War Era photography. The presentation began with Professor Farley going through each of the steps in the meticulous process. He then asked for volunteers from the crowd of students, who
enthusiastically stepped up to have their pictures taken. From professional headshots to graduation photos, Farley’s talent in photography and teaching provided a learning opportunity
and captured memories that our Seahawks can be remember for years to come. For more
