You wake up to the sunrise. You pull yourself out of bed and into the kitchen, where you start breakfast for your husband and children. After sending your husband off to work with lunch and a kiss and your kids off to their studies, you have the house to yourself. Alone in your humble abode, you set to work with your cleaning supplies and a little elbow grease.

When your family returns that evening, you have a home-cooked dinner waiting on the table. And at the end of the day? You send your children off to bed and prepare to do it all again.

As the fall semester comes to a close, there are many opportunities to support the seniors on campus. One of the ways to support music majors is by attending their senior recitals.

Grace Price, a senior music education major, shares her experience studying music at Asbury.

The Kentucky Outdoor Institute (KOI) will be taking a backpacking trip on the Sheltowee Trace from Nov. 15 to 17.  The cost of the trip is $25, which includes permits, transportation and food. Both Vemmo and cash are available options. The purpose of the trip is to give students the opportunity to experience the outdoors while also developing skills of leadership and resilience.

KOI is a non-profit organization associated with the Adventure Leadership major here at Asbury. The concept of the program is to get students to have hands-on experience.

It also educates groups on the technical and ethical practices of experiencing the outdoors. The KOI website states, “The adventure education technique uses an experiential learning approach — indoors or outdoors — that puts individuals and groups into situations with uncertain outcomes that allow them to struggle with problems, engage creative solutions and use trial and error.” The organization puts a great deal of emphasis on growing while engaging with nature.

Directed by Mark Schell, a professor of the music department, the handbell choir is a staple of many Asbury concerts, chapels and Wilmore holiday events throughout the year. The group is made up of both college students and people from Wilmore alike.

With a good mix of new and old members alike, the choir has 15 members this school year.
Their passion for performing and the instruments being played shines through, as the ensemble works like a well oiled machine. Seeing a lot of these classics in a different light gives new meaning and depth to already beloved songs.

The yard was decorated with hay bales, brightly colored leaves and pumpkins, and lined with rows of vendors with different handmade items to sell or crafts to participate in. Items like pottery, beaded jewelry, crocheted crafts and face painting were just some of the many things sold by vendors. Beside vendor stands were picnic tables set up for holiday crafts like pumpkin painting. The Asbury community brought in the fall season with the Student Activities Cabinet’s (SAC) annual harvest festival on the Aldersgate Green last Saturday night. It was an evening full of fun, laughter and all things fall.

Residence Director Emily Leininger and the Aldersgate RA’s did an incredible job creating a fun, immersive night of games, crafts, dancing and snacking. This was an event unlike any other at Asbury, and hopefully, it will be one we see again.

Here’s another look at the Aldersgate Ren Faire.

This year’s Activities Fair was packed with over 90 organizations, clubs, churches and activities represented. Outside of the CLC, clubs like the Asbury Tumbling Team, Adventure Leadership and different equine clubs gave hands-on demonstrations of what their clubs do. These booths featured kayaks, tents and even horses and ponies for people to pet.

As the leaves have started to turn on campus, so have the pages in Kinlaw Library. Last Monday marked the start of the annual Kinlaw Library Book Sale, a week-long event in the lobby of the library. Thousands of books from various genres went up for sale, drawing from children’s books, science, sociology, Christian studies and more.

A new year means new freshmen on Asbury’s campus. The Class of 2028, the Renewed Class, Asbury’s largest incoming traditional undergraduate class in 25 years, is defined by Isaiah 43:18-19. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

“On Wednesday, Jan 17, you may have heard the swanky tunes of classical jazz floating through the Student Center as the Ballroom Dancing Club made its debut. The Map side of the STUCE was stuffed with what felt like half the school’s population as everyone was excited for their chance to learn the Foxtrot.”

“Every year at the start of the spring semester, I am always excited and ambitious for all things new: the new year, new classes, new rhythms, new routines. Something of a fresh start in the place I call home.
Likewise, every year at the start of the spring semester, I find myself already exhausted three days into classes. I grow frustrated with myself. Why am I already losing steam? Why do I lack the bandwidth that everyone else seems to have? Why can’t I get out of this unending cycle of weariness?”

“Supporting your college sports teams is a great experience to share with the people in your community, but it can be daunting to try to figure out how to do so. That’s why I sat down with the director of Asbury University’s athletic communications and events, Colton Back, to get some information straight from the source.”

“In The Review, you can see who wrote what, but at the Launch Party, you get to feel the character behind them and what they wrote or created and see how they express themselves with their writing with what they’re wearing and how they say everything. It is a great way for all of us to get together and be able to celebrate the artists and writers that are involved” (Emily Ellis, Editor-In-Chief and contributor for The Review).
