BOOKS: Author Jen Michalski’s All This Can Be True explores grief, second chances, and love in unexpected places — reminding us it’s never too late for a new chapter.

Second acts. I celebrated my 50th birthday a few years ago (around when I started writing this novel). Your 50s are a time when whatever you thought would happen in your life either happened or it didn’t. There’s definitely some reflection on the choices one made that have gotten one to this poi...

The fight for trans rights is far from over and will continue for decades. Now the next generation of leaders is getting a boost. TransEd awarded $12,500 to four trans students pursuing higher education.

OP-ED: LGBTQ youth are just 7–10% of the population but make up nearly 40% of homeless youth. Family rejection, abuse, and unsafe communities push them into danger — and we can help change that.

Across the United States, a silent crisis is pushing thousands of LGBTQ youth into the shadows. While they make up just 7–10% of the youth population, LGBTQ youth account for nearly 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness. This staggering statistic isn't just a number — it’s a wake-up call ...

IN MEMORIAM: Brett Tannenbaum defied the odds for decades — building iconic venues, spreading love, and living fully despite illness. South Florida remembers a true original.

Quiet, somber sobs and loud laughter filled the Crystal Ballroom at The Venue as the community came to say goodbye to Brett Tannenbaum. He died July 30 after a five-decade battle with diabetes and the health complications that accompany the disease. He was 57.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 18th, as we celebrate another year of q***r, youth-led advocacy at our 2025 PRISM Gala!

Theme: Q***r as Punk – A History of Resistance
As q***r youth face mounting attacks across the state, our movement calls for a return to scrappy, grassroots tactics. This year, we're harkening back to the era of Riot Grrrl and feminist punk to celebrate q***rs who took to the streets to demand change. We know that those who came before us have paved the way to equality with their blood, sweat, and tears. Join us as we pay homage to the people, organizations, and movements that lit the fire of q***r activism and fought for the rights we have today.

There will be:
- Entertainment
- Dinner & Drinks
- Interactive Exhibits
- Silent Auction
- Awards Ceremony
- An exclusive after party
- And more!

TO DO: From Bear Union to Pride Fête and Tropical Heat—South Florida is sizzling this week with q***r events, drag shows, and sweaty dance floors.

The Miami Gay Chorus holds try-outs today. Freud said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.” Maybe not tonight at Eagle. Antonio Edwards and Lenora Jaye ring their chemistry to The Pub on the Drive this evening. Bear Union kicks off today for Bears, daddies, big men, and their admirers. Go to bea...

NATIONAL: The U.S. now denies visas to trans women athletes, claiming it's to “protect women’s sports.” Germany and Denmark have issued travel warnings for trans travelers.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on Monday announced it will ensure “male aliens seeking immigration benefits aren’t coming to the U.S. to participate in women’s sports.”

LOCAL: Muscle bears, cubs, and teddy hearts—Bears of South Florida aren’t just a social group, they’re a volunteer-powered force raising $100K+ for LGBTQ orgs. No shame, no cliques—just love, service, and real community.

While misconceptions abound in the LGBTQ community about our bear brethren, be it known that they are as diverse as the rainbow flag that was designed as a symbol of pride by Gilbert Baker in 1978 to represent us all.

LOCAL: Time-travel, lighthouses & lost love: Jonathan Welsh’s debut book weaves coastal q***r stories from South Beach to Nantucket. AIDS-era romance, hurricane survival, and hidden passions at sea—this one has heart, history, and heat.

In “Tides Between Shores,” debut author Jonathan Welsh connects the windswept shores of Nantucket with the sun-soaked streets of South Beach, through tender time-traveling tales of love and identity.

OP-ED: When faith told her to judge, she chose to love. One devout Catholic mom embraced her divorced kids, gay sons, and even the ones who fell hardest. Because in her home, God is love.

It’s disturbing to hear with increased frequency that Evangelical Christians are disowning their gay and transgender children. They point to their faith as the reason for their actions. “It says in the Bible…”
