That's how fast a home fire can take over a house. If you're asleep when it starts, it's even less time than you think.

Deb Fleming, Executive Director of the Greater Shenandoah Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross of Central Appalachia Region, says home fires are the biggest threat in our region right now. Furnaces are kicking on, space heaters are coming out, and home fire season runs all the way through March. 🏠

Her top tips:
🚨 A working smoke alarm on every level and in every bedroom
🚪 Sleep with your bedroom door closed
🗺️ An escape plan with two ways out of every room
📍 A meeting place outside that everyone knows

Motels are legally required to cycle guests out before they become tenants. So every three weeks, families in crisis pack up, move, and try to keep their kids on track for school.
