Hey, I’m Jimmy—combat-wounded Army Ranger, passionate fisherman, and someone who believes in the power of brotherhood, healing, and pushing life’s limits. I spent years on the front lines, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, where I saw the best and worst of humanity. From leading my infantry team in Iraq during the second Sadr City uprising to participating in high-stakes missions like Objective Sta

rk, my military career shaped who I am today. Along the way, I lost brothers in combat and dealt with my own struggles, including PTSD, brain injuries, and everything that comes with surviving the battlefield. But life after service wasn’t the end—it was a new beginning. After being medically retired, I faced the toughest battles of my life. But I found new purpose in helping other veterans and rediscovering what it means to live fully. That’s why I founded Knot Lucky, a nonprofit that takes veterans on life-changing fishing trips to heal through the power of the ocean and the camaraderie we miss from our days in uniform. I believe in giving back, and through Knot Lucky, I connect vets with mental health resources, run incredible offshore adventures, and even tag great white sharks, naming them after the fallen so their memory lives on. I’m also a strong believer in psychedelic healing, having personally experienced the transformative power of treatments like Ibogaine and 5-MEO-DMT. These therapies helped reset my life, and now I advocate for alternative treatments to help my brothers and sisters who might feel like all hope is lost. I’m on a mission to spread awareness about mental health, especially within the veteran community, because too many of us are still fighting battles long after the war is over. When I’m not out on the water, you’ll find me sharing my experiences through The Hub podcast or out on new adventures, like skydiving, hunting, and making epic memories with good friends. I’m lucky enough to have amazing sponsors like Starbrite, Relentless Knives, Waterman Outfitters, The Sua Sponte Foundation, Galbreath Heating and Air, Ambio Life Sciences, and Edwards Graphics backing the mission of Knot Lucky, and together we’re proving that there’s always a way forward. Life’s too short to live in the past, so I’m all about pushing boundaries and evolving into the best version of myself. Whether it’s catching fish, tagging sharks, or running from storms (sometimes literally), I believe in chasing dreams and helping others along the way. If you’re down with fishing, mental health advocacy, or just want to connect, hit me up. I’m here for the good times, the tough times, and everything in between.

🎨 Fresh Coat, New Chapter! 🎙️

The Knot Lucky podcast studio just got a fresh coat of paint — Van Deusen Blue. 💙

Blue has been my favorite color since childhood. It’s the color of the ocean when we’re offshore, and it symbolizes loyalty, calmness, freedom, stability, and trust — the same values Knot Lucky brings to veterans through the water. ⚓️🦈

I’m grateful every day to serve the purpose God put before me, and I’m excited to use this space to share stories of resilience with our amazing local community that supports us so much.

Thank you for keeping Knot Lucky running strong. I truly enjoy when y’all stop me to say hi — shaking your hands and seeing your faces reminds me that none of this happens without you.

Here’s to the next step forward — and to the stories we’re about to tell. 🎙️

🇺🇸 Honoring SPC Christopher Shane Wright 🇺🇸Fifteen years ago today, on August 19, 2010, we lost my good friend, Ranger brother, and one of the finest men I’ve ever known — SPC Christopher Shane Wright.Chris and I served at our first unit together, 1/2 SCR. We deployed to Iraq for 15 months in the same platoon, and later went through RIP side-by-side — the selection course to earn a place in Battalion. He was a great man and a great Ranger. When he left this Earth, a lot of lives were changed forever.I carry his initials tattooed on my arm, along with the Ranger DUI and today’s date. It’s my way of keeping him with me.We named our first tagged great white shark after Chris — a moment I will never forget. That day, Ryan Davis, Devin Stickley, and I shared something beautiful out on the water, honoring his memory in a way that connected our mission at Knot Lucky with the brotherhood we’ll always have.Thank you for being you, Chris. I’ll see you on the high ground. 🪖🦈⚓️

🐟💥 The 3-Hour Amberjack That Got Away 💥🐟

Yesterday was one for the books! We had Aaron and Eric onboard, with Bad Luck Ben handling mate duties. With no set pattern on fish lately, we’ve been making runs out to the Navy tower.

🎣 First up, we landed a bonita (which will be exchanged for a great white shark this winter 😉). Lost a few, then Eric locked horns with what appeared to be a massive amberjack. After a grueling 3-hour battle, it breached just 100 yards from the boat and broke the line. That’s fishing at its finest—heartbreak and adrenaline all in one! We made another pass, picked up a solid cuda, and called it a day.

The real blessing? Thanks to Garmin radar—and some help from the Good Lord—we dodged every storm on the ride back in.

We’ve got another veteran trip today before diving into some off-the-boat projects tomorrow.

Most importantly, I want to say THANK YOU. 🙏🏾 Over the past few weeks, so many of you have shown support for what we’re building at Knot Lucky. Whether you hit the like button, drop an encouraging comment, stop to chat, or even donate $10k—please know how much I appreciate each and every one of you.

This mission isn’t possible without this amazing community. One love 🫶🏾

📸 And yes—the second picture is the face you make when you drop your glasses in the water throwing the cast net. 🤦🏾‍♂️😂

Out on the inshore today thanks to my father figure, Mike 🙌. He offered to take me and one of our vets, so of course I called my good buddy Chris—a Marine and a regular with Knot Lucky. Always grateful for time on the water with brothers like him.

Wishing everyone an awesome day out there! 🌊🎣 After today’s trip, it’s back to building out our podcast studio so we can start sharing more stories, healing, and laughs with you all.

🎙️ Project Pod Cast is officially underway!

We’re in the “turn the office into a studio” phase—paint brushes out, walls getting a facelift, and gear on the way. I’ve been digging into everything we need to build a solid filming setup right here at the house. Next up: sound curtains and acoustic panels to tighten up the audio.

It’s been a long time coming, and we’re fired up to finally bring the Knot Lucky Podcast to life. Stay tuned—some powerful conversations are on the horizon.

Rick Perry Says Ibogaine Transformed His Brain: From Slight Atrophy to “Brain of a 40-Year-Old”

Former Texas Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry recently revealed a deeply personal journey with the psychedelic compound ibogaine, describing a dramatic shift in his brain health.

Perry, now 73, had undergone an MRI revealing signs of mild brain atrophy—something not uncommon for his age. Seeking improvement, he traveled to a clinic in Tijuana, Mexico, in 2023 for an ibogaine treatment. The experience was intense: vivid hallucinations, physical distress, and powerful imagery—including a devil-like figure and visions of Maya hieroglyphics—marked the trip. Perry reportedly vomited, lost coordination, and required a full day to recover.

But what came next was astonishing. Six months after the experience, Perry received another MRI. His neurologist, Dr. Charles Gordon, reportedly declared, “You have the brain of a 40‑year‑old,” noting that the prior signs of atrophy had vanished.

Since then, Perry has become one of the most vocal proponents of ibogaine. He’s pushed for broad research efforts, helped secure $50 million in Texas state funding for ibogaine clinical trials, and co-founded Americans for Ibogaine to promote education, responsible access, and advocacy. His interest is particularly focused on applications for veterans grappling with PTSD, addiction, and brain trauma.

Monster of Montauk – The Biggest Great White on Rod & Reel 🦈

Back in August 1986, anglers Frank Mundus and Donnie Braddick battled an absolute ocean giant off Montauk, New York—a 3,427-lb great white shark. Caught on 150-lb test line, it set the record not just for the largest great white, but for the heaviest fish ever landed with rod and reel.

One day, we hope Knot Lucky gets to tag a great white in that same legendary league. Heck, let’s go bigger and bring that title home to Willmington/Tybee Islands🇺🇸🎣🦈🤙🏾

🎙️ It’s Time — The Knot Lucky Podcast is Coming to Life

I’ve been told for a long time that we need to start a podcast. Eric and I played with one awhile back, but honestly, I wasn’t happy with the filming and audio quality. We also jumped the gun without enough episodes lined up before releasing. Producing high-quality content on a consistent schedule is no small feat.

Well… thanks to a generous donor, we now have everything we need to get this rolling. Now it’s time to put some fresh paint on the wall, hang some decorations, and build some furniture — this Army Ranger turned fisherman is about to get in touch with his interior decorating side. I’m sure there will be stumbling blocks along the way, and we’ll probably find gear to upgrade and new ways to bring you the best content possible.

Here’s what you can expect:
• Psychedelic medicine — the real stories, science, and stigma.
• War stories — from us and our brothers in arms.
• Healing journeys — raw, unfiltered, and honest.
• Life in general — and maybe a few current events thrown in for good measure.

If there’s something you’d like to hear us cover, drop your suggestions in the comments. This is going to be real, it’s going to be raw, and it’s going to be us.

We love helping veterans and active duty parents make memories with their children. 🇺🇸🎣

Last Thursday didn’t go as planned—bait was tough, the seas were rough, and offshore conditions weren’t ideal. But sometimes, that’s when the best memories are made.

We stumbled on a school of Spanish mackerel and ended up spending hours laughing, casting, and making the most of it together.

It’s not always about the perfect day on the water—it’s about showing up, adapting, and being present with the people you love.🇺🇸🎣🤙🏾

This grouper takes the title for my favorite fish of the year (so far). We had just wrapped up an incredible great white shark tagging season, and I found myself in the Florida Keys with Greg and Turner from Starbrite—good friends, clear water, and nonstop laughs. Life doesn’t get much better than that. 🇺🇸🎣🤙🏾

Happy Birthday to my best friend, Ryan Davis.

Ryan and I have only known each other a few short years, but it feels like a lifetime. When we first met, we were both in some of the lowest places of our lives. But one day, Ryan came fishing—and everything changed.

You might think two wild men in dark places would spiral downward together, but it was the opposite. We leaned on each other hard. We kept each other afloat when the tide got rough. And slowly, we started to climb.

Ryan drove the boat when we tagged our very first great white shark. We’ve briefed politicians together on psychedelic healing and veteran mental health. We’ve taken road trips, shared deep talks, and—most importantly—we’ve helped dozens of veterans find their way out of the darkness.

Ryan, thank you for always being there. Thank you for your heart, your grit, and your relentless drive to help others. But most of all—thank you for being you.

I love you, brother.
Great white shark season is right around the corner. 🇺🇸🎣🤙🏾

Let’s Talk Barracuda 🐟🔥

Contrary to popular belief, barracuda makes excellent table fare. When handled properly and caught in the right waters, this fish offers firm, flavorful meat that’s perfect for grilling, frying, or blackening. Unfortunately, the reputation of this apex predator has been tainted by fears of ciguatera poisoning—but let’s clear that up.

There has never been a single confirmed case of ciguatera in any fish caught off the coast of Georgia.
Why? Because ciguatera is caused by a toxin that originates from a specific type of algae (Gambierdiscus), which only thrives in warm tropical waters that don’t drop below a certain temperature. Georgia’s coastal waters get too cold in the winter for that algae to survive, which means your locally caught barracuda is in the clear.

So next time you land one of these toothy torpedoes, don’t be so quick to toss it back. Filet it, chill it, cook it right—and you might just discover your new favorite fish dinner. 🐠🔥
