On September 13, 2025, the Wiggins Rural Fire Protection District commemorated its 75th anniversary with a celebration of service. The event brought together former members, current firefighters, and the community. The department also "pushed in" its third Rosenbauer Group apparatus during the celebration. The Board of Directors and Command Staff honored the department's history and shared their vision for the future, recognizing current members for their unwavering commitment as volunteer firefighters.

On September 11th, 2001, our nation lost thousands. Year after year since then, stair climbs are hosted across the nation where first responders and community gather to honor the sacrifice and our promise to never forget by climbing the equivalent to 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center Towers. I participated in the Colorado 9-11 Stair Climb at Red Rocks in the morning alongside 2,000 other climbers, many first responders in their own gear. That evening I climbed with my wife at the NOCO 9-11 Stair Climb. To see the amount of people that came out for both of these events was incredible. It is easy for us to get into the grind and not recall the past until it is time for the next day in remembrance, I hope we can cherish these individuals and learn about who they were and live like them. This year I climbed in honor of Firefighter Kevin Pfeifer and Firefighter Gary Geidel. May each story live on through each climb.

On September 5, 2025, Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Northern Colorado Regional Airport (KFNL) hosted the 2025 tri-annual aircraft crash simulation. Firefighters from the surrounding area gathered for a briefing before being “dispatched” by the Loveland Emergency Communications Center to a standby for a large aircraft incoming to KFNL. Loveland Station 4 is not staffed 24/7 so when a large aircraft is scheduled to land, a crew from LFRA will move-up and standby on the ramp with a crash rescue apparatus from Station 4. In this simulation, firefighters simulated observing a crash and upgrading the alarm to an Alert 3, bringing in additional resources from Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, Poudre Fire Authority, Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue, Loveland Police Department, Thompson Valley EMS, and Airport Operations. Upon arrival, Crash 44 advised they had a working fire with a plane split in half. Crash 44 advised the portion of the plane that was on fire with a fuel leak would be classified as the “Alpha” while the other portion would be classified as “Charlie”. Firefighters initiated an attack on the flames from Crash 44 and requested Engine 50 retrieve Crash 53 and respond in. Engine 403 and Brush 403 were assigned to the “Charlie” portion and began medical care for the individuals in the simulated fuselage (bus). Crews simulated triage and transport of over 100 patients, surpassing the resources for the area and deeming the drill as a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI). The patients photographed were roleplayers and had no actual injuries.

Units involved:
Loveland Fire Rescue Authority: Chief 41, Chief 42, Battalion 42, Crash 44, Crash 53, Engine 45, Engine 50, Engine 55 (Reserve), Tower 46, Tender 46, Squad 46

Windsor Severance Fire Rescue: Battalion 401, SAM 401, SAM 402, Engine 403, Brush 403

Poudre Fire Authority: Battalion 2, Engine 14

Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control: RTO 43 and Aircraft Simulator

Thompson Valley EMS: Administration, Paramedic 312, Paramedic 352, Paramedic 361, Drone Operator

Loveland Police Department

City of Loveland: Public Information Office

After years of hearing about it, I finally made the trip out to the Wages Volunteer Fire Department, located deep in the farm country southwest of Holyoke, Colorado. The station was packed for their annual BBQ fundraiser! The community came together to enjoy hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, and dessert, while also taking fire truck rides and donating to the department. It was a great way to celebrate three members who have each dedicated 40 years of service to the community—a truly incredible legacy!

Meet Laramie County Fire Authority's new Tender 751 ( #3378), a powerful addition to its fleet. Built by Midwest Fire on a 2025 Trucks 114SD chassis, this tender carries a 3,500-gallon water tank and a 1,250 GPM Waterous Company CS pump.

It's a twin to Tender 711 ( #3377) and is designed with firefighter safety in mind. A unique innovation is the jet siphon tube with a pre-connected hose on the rear bumper, allowing for quick deployment with multiple port-a-tanks in use.

Other notable safety features include:

- ZICO Electric "tip down" portable tank carrier for easy deployment.
- Newton 10-inch swivel dump with electric controls and a 36-inch chute, allowing it to dump water in any direction.
- Whelen emergency lighting package equipped with DVI/Low Power upgrade to reduce glare for motorists and keep firefighters safer on the roadside.

At just under 10 feet tall and 33 feet long, this apparatus will significantly enhance LCFA's water supply stance within the non-hydranted areas of the district.

The Laramie County Fire Authority (WY) officially opened its new Station 75 to the public on August 16, 2025. Located at 1705 Treadway Trail in Cheyenne, the station is a major win for the community, promising faster response times for emergencies on the western side of Cheyenne. As the LCFA's third staffed station, it currently houses Tower 751, Rescue 751, Brush 751, a Special Operations Trailer, and the brand-new Tender 751. Firefighters are excited about the new opportunities the station provides, and the community is eager to see the positive impact it will have. An additional engine from Rosenbauer is expected to arrive for the department soon, which will further improve the station's capabilities.

Check back on Thursday for photos of the new Tender 751 from Midwest Fire!

In June 2025, True Grit Training participated in the 107th Annual Colorado State Fire Fighters Association Fire College, providing hands-on live fire training to firefighters from across the state. This training aimed to improve the skills and efficiency of firefighters on the fireground.

Participants had the opportunity to hone their skills in a variety of essential areas, including:
- Scene Size Up
- Hose Deployment
- Forcible Entry
- Search
- Ladder Operations
- Fire Attack

Collaborating with individuals from different agencies allowed firefighters to observe and learn from various tactics and strategies, enabling them to refine their own methods and determine the most effective approaches for their specific needs.

The Colorado State Fire Fighters Association and the Colorado State Fire Fighters Foundation hosted the 107th Annual Fire College in Fort Collins, Colorado, in June 2025. The event gathered firefighters from across the state for training on various topics. Instructors from "When Things Go Bad" were part of the faculty, teaching courses on unconventional ladder techniques, through-the-lock entry, and truck work. Firefighters practiced throwing ladders both solo and with a partner, adding a versatile range of knowledge to their skill sets. They also trained on victim rescue using ladders and a Stokes basket, employing several different techniques. The training emphasized that having unconventional methods stored in a firefighter's mental toolbox, even if only used once in a career, could be crucial in a critical situation.

Fort Collins, Colorado, was the site of the 107th Annual Fire College in June 2025, a collaborative effort by the Colorado State Fire Fighters Association and the Colorado State Fire Fighters Foundation. A highlight of the college's curriculum was a comprehensive 16-hour extrication class taught by experts from Chop Shop RX. The program began with in-depth classroom instruction, catering to firefighters across all skill levels, before transitioning to 12 hours of immersive, hands-on training. Participants honed their understanding of crucial terminology and techniques, applying them in various practical exercises to solidify their knowledge for critical real-life rescues.
