There are moments behind the lens that stay with you forever. 📸

The Guardian Awards Ceremony wasn’t just a formal event; it was a celebration of a life returned.

On September 11, 2025, the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority family nearly lost one of their own when Lt. Shelby Vrem suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on duty. It was the frantic, heroic, and selfless actions of his crew—Lt. Alex Klinger, Engineer Doug Vinzant, and Firefighters Trey Albrecht and Reid Nichols—alongside Thompson Valley EMS, that ensured he would be here to see this day.

Watching Chief Sendelbach hand out these awards, the room was thick with a sense of gratitude that is hard to put into words. It was a powerful reminder of why firefighter health and safety must always come first. A life was saved that day, and a family stayed whole. 🛡️❤️

On December 18, 2025, at approximately 09:46, Fort Collins 911 dispatched Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) to a vegetation fire southwest of the 4400 Block of Laporte Avenue. Due to a visible smoke plume and a high volume of calls, the incident was upgraded to a second alarm, adding multiple brush trucks and tenders. Engine 2 provided an initial report of 1-2 acres burning in light flashy fuels. Training 1 assumed command on the West side, directing Engine 2 to deploy a progressive hoseline while Brush 7 and Brush 4 arrived to assist.

During operations, Engine 2 reported downed power lines, and Xcel was requested to confirm de-energization. Command shifted to Battalion 2 and Training 1, who organized units into Zulu (West) and Alpha (East) divisions. Battalion 1 served as lookout, identifying that the fire was entering heavy timber and threatening structures. This critical report allowed crews to redirect resources and save all buildings on scene. Brush 12 and the Phantom Canyon Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Wildland Team utilized hoselines and "falling" operations to create a strong fireline. The fire was called under control at 10:52, having burned an estimated 2.5 acres.

The cause of the fire was determined to be downed power lines.

On December 11, 2025 at 16:46 Poudre Fire Authority was dispatched by Fort Collins 911 (100) to a reported structure fire in the 1200 block of West Prospect Road. While enroute dispatch advised they had multiple callers and they were receiving mixed reports about evacuations. As Battalion 1 arrived on scene, he reported a working structure fire on the south side of Building L to include an exterior-in fire and requested a working incident page. Battalion 1 assigned Engine 4 to Fire Attack, Rescue 4 to Primary Search and Engine 3 to Water Supply. Firefighters deployed a pre-connected hoseline to the exterior of the structure and began an exterior attack while Engine 2 firefighters pulled a secondary line and made the push, interior. Firefighters were able to quickly limit extension and began an extensive overhaul to ensure all fire had been found and extinguished. Personnel utilized truck mounted scene lighting and portable scene lighting to illuminate the scene during overhaul operations, ensuring safety while pulling ceiling, cutting inspection holes in the attic and the chimney area. Crews completed a secondary search and utilized mutliple positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the smoke from within the structure. Two families were displaced by this fire and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Poudre Fire Authority.

Fort Morgan Fire Department has brought a new tool to the toolbox with this one! Recently placed in service is a 2025 Pierce Mfg Enforcer 100’ Mid-Mount Ascendant aerial. This apparatus packs a punch with a Waterous Company 2,000 GPM pump and 300 gallon water tank. This apparatus is the first of two new apparatus sporting a new color scheme to support the school. Coming in a few feet shorter in length, shorter in height and certainly cleared up the drivers view, making responses and operations safer as compared to the previous rear-mount aerial.

On October 24th, 2025 Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Berthoud Fire Protection District brought an end to over a year of training in a structure donated to LFRA. Firefighters have utilized the structure to practice hoseline advancement, search operations, fire attack, firefighter survival skills, water tender operations, defensive fire tactics and observed fire dynamics. It is a few and far between opportunity to possess such a building for training for many departments and being able to capitalize on the opportunity for over a year is exceptional. I was able to be present to observe the complete burn down of the residence. Check out these images and see if you can spot all the INNOTEX gear!
