FUN FACT:

When Steve was looking for a better name for the animation studio, it literally jumped right in front of him! He and a Polish friend were driving when a grasshopper leaped into the car, causing his friend to yell, "Ah, a grasshorse!" Steve got so many creative ideas from the name alone that he had to use it for the studio.

Dani Massey is this week’s featured artist from the Summer 2021 Grasshorse Studio Internship. This artist is a recent graduate of SCC's Animation for Television, Film & New Media Program. From June-August, she took the lead on two episodes of the upcoming season of Judge Gavel’s Opinion for her internship project. As a storyteller in her personal endeavors, Dani enjoys exploring both 2D and 3D medias. She has done stellar concept work during her time on Puppet Justice, at Grasshorse, and during her years at SCC. Dani finds inspiration from many sources to push her zany, whimsical designs. She most enjoys work rooted Scifi and Fantasy genres and is often inspired by her experiences with books, video games, movies, and other artists. We have thoroughly enjoyed having Dani be a part of the Grasshorse and Puppet Justice team the past several months.

Leah Sloan is this week’s featured artist from the Summer 2021 Grasshorse Studio Internship. This artist is in her final year at the University of Iowa, majoring in Art with a Drawing BFA. Over the past two months, she took the lead on two episodes of the upcoming season of Judge Gavel’s Opinion for her internship project. Her interests include character animation, character design, and comic illustration. Leah’s personal work focuses on narrative, mood, and natural aesthetics; drawing inspiration from children’s books, fantasy, and childhood experiences. Her approach to art gives feelings of warmth and wonder. Two characteristics that appropriately encapsulates Leah as well. It was a pleasure to have such a talented artist with us this summer.
