🍨 The inside scoop on local ice cream 🍦

The Triad has no shortage of ice cream options, with many amazing options right here in Winston-Salem.

Writer Lynne Brandon talked with some local ice cream shop owners to share a little more about their offerings.

🍨 Chill Nitro
➡️ Caroline Van Wagner is a former employee and now owner of Chill Nitro, the only nitro ice-cream shop in the city.
📍 616 W 4th St, Winston-Salem

🍨 To The Moon and Back Frozen Treats
➡️ Cheryl Albrecht and husband, Brian, started selling ice cream with a landscape trailer and used freezer on wheels.
📍189 Hickory Tree Rd Ste 100, Winston-Salem

🍨 Dairi-O
➡️ Since 1947, Dairi-O has been serving families and communities. While you can go for a meal, for many, a main attraction is the old-fashioned, slow-churned ice cream that turn into milkshakes, scoops, soft serve dipped cones, and banana splits.
📍1207 W Clemmonsville Rd and 5916 University Pkwy, Winston-Salem

🍨 Dream Kreams
➡️ Kyndra Bell, Dream Kreams Artisanal Creamery owner, started her business by making ice cream at home in Mason Jars.
📍 102 W 3rd St Ste 102, Winston-Salem (inside the Liberty Plaza building)

We agree 💯 percent with the “Ice cream solves everything" sign at Dollops Ice Cream 😁

JetZero broke ground on its $4.7 billion manufacturing campus at Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) today. Company officials and leaders from throughout the state—including Governor Josh Stein and Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines—were on hand to witness the groundbreaking.
“Once we visited this place, I think we all kind of knew,” JetZero’s co-founder and CEO Tom O’Leary said today of why our area was chosen. “We’re looking to build an impressive home and not simply a factory, but a headquarters, and not simply a headquarters, but a global epicenter for the future of aviation.”
It's a “big step” for Jet Zero, and it's a big deal for the Piedmont Triad (and state). It’s the largest state-level incentive package for a start-up in N.C. history; JetZero will relocate its primary headquarters from California to Greensboro; the campus will cover more than 600 acres and will include an 8-million-square-foot facility; and this endeavor is set to create 14,500 jobs during the next decade (with an average salary of roughly $89,340). The economic impact is expected to reach $250 billion.

I was editor when the magazine turned five years old, and (since a few months ago) I’m back in the chair for our 20th. Life is wild! A memorable day my first go-round (March 2010–Sept. 2012) was when our editorial team of then-art director Richard Boyd, then-assistant editor Michael Breedlove, and I trekked around the city with mascots, with then-and-always-photographer Jay/J. Sinclair Photography capturing the fun.
The group photo (by Urban Bloom Photography) shows me with Jay, Richard, and Michael, whom, dysfunction and all, I lovingly called my weekday, daytime guys. (Some Winston-Salem Journal | JournalNow "siblings" said it looked like an album cover, so now I call it "Back When We were a Band.") We'd invited then-sales manager Angie Tedder, too, but she missed the shoot (probably because she chose to sell more ads for us!).

Please *share a comment* if you’re a long-time (or new!) reader, contributor, advertiser, helper, et. al. We want to celebrate all the people who got us here: YOU! As a small token of big thanks, we're offering a subscription special as our b'day gift.
