Join Us for the 2nd Annual Blooming Together: An Intergenerational Arts Festival and Garden Party

Winston-Salem, NC – Senior Services, Inc. is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Blooming Together: An Intergenerational Arts Festival and Garden Party, taking place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Intergenerational Center for Arts & Wellness, located at 114 W. 30th Street.

This year’s event is a vibrant celebration of intergenerational creativity, bringing together participants ranging from ages 4 to 94 for a day filled with music, dance, art, and community spirit. Attendees will enjoy performances, hands-on activities, and demonstrations that reflect the rich cultural diversity of our community.

The festival will feature:

Musical Performances from local artists

Multicultural Dance Performances celebrating global traditions

Spoken Word Performances showcasing powerful voices

International Cooking Demonstrations offering culinary delights

Hands-On Activities where guests of all ages can participate
Free and Open to the Public This event is free and open to everyone, and we invite all members of the community to join us in experiencing the joy of creativity across generations. It’s an opportunity to connect, share, and celebrate the many forms of artistic expression that unite us.

A Collaborative Effort Blooming Together is supported by the Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County and the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

On tonight's program "the Future of Black Studies with Abdul Alkalimat."

Professor Abdul Alkalimat is a founder of the field of Black Studies and Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. A lifelong scholar-organizer with a PhD from the University of Chicago, he has lectured, taught, and directed academic programs across the U.S., the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, and China.

His academic-organizing trajectory stems, as former chair of the Chicago chapter of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in the 1960s to a prominent actor in the African Liberation Support Movement to being a co-founder of the Black Radical Congress in 1998.

WSNC 90.5 FM began its first broadcast on May 2, 1983. We broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from a 10,000-watt tower located on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. Our coverage area includes Forsyth, Stokes, Davie, Davidson, Randolph, Guilford Counties, and the World via the web. Our format is Jazz, including Blues, R&B, Gospel, and World music, plus News & Information and Public Affairs programming.

Our mission is to produce and acquire programming of value reflecting the culture, events, issues, and ideas of our region and the world through public service of the highest quality for the people of Winston-Salem State University and its communities.
