Winter Park's culinary reputation continues to grow. The latest Michelin Guide results are in, and our local restaurants delivered.

Ômo by Jônt on Lyman Avenue, Soseki Modern Omakase on Fairbanks Avenue, Camille in Baldwin Park, and Kadence - Orlando in Audubon Park all retained their stars, continuing the sustained excellence that has made Winter Park and the surrounding "Parks" some of Florida's premier dining destinations.

Sorekara in Baldwin Park held its 2-star rating, one of just two two-starred restaurants in the entire state.

A special distinction was also awarded: Juan Valencia of Ômo by Jônt received the Michelin Sommelier Award, which recognizes sommeliers "with an exceptional passion, deep industry knowledge, and an unparalleled ability to curate wine programs and elevate the dining experience".

On the Bib Gourmand side — The Michelin award given to restaurants offering exceptional food at approachable prices — Winter Park and its surrounding neighborhoods showed up strongly: Coro Restaurant in Audubon Park, Sushi Saint (now on Fairbanks Avenue), Taste of Chengdu in Baldwin Park, and The Ravenous Pig on Fairbanks all earned the distinction.

Congratulations to all!

We join the Winter Park community in mourning one of its most beloved and distinguished servants, Reverend Dr. Alphonzo Cornelius Cobb, who departed this life on May 11, 2026, at the age of 100.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1925, to James and Bertha Cobb, Rev. Dr. Cobb's life was a testament to honor and faith. He answered his country's call as a proud veteran of the Army Air Corps before building a life alongside his devoted wife, Rozella Wilson Cobb, whom he married in 1955.
In 1989, he accepted the call to lead Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Winter Park -- a role he fulfilled with extraordinary grace and leadership for over two decades. Upon his retirement in 2013, he continued to serve his community as Pastor Emeritus.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Golden's Funeral Home Chapel, 210 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, 11:00 AM at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 421 S. Pennsylvania Ave.

Winter Park Dining News To Know:

Farewell, Cocina 214. The beloved Mexican restaurant has announced that it will close permanently on Friday, May 29, when its lease expires. The news follows the sale of the property at 151 E. Wellbourne earlier this year for $5.9 million.

A Paradox on Park Ave. The former Blu on the Avenue space is being transformed into Paradox, a modern steakhouse with a members-only lounge component. The venue describes itself as "designed for connection, defined by privacy."

Chayote has temporarily closed its doors in the Winter Park Village and will reopen as The Grove Bar + Kitchen, a new concept from celebrated Chef Mario Pagán. The restaurant is described as "rooted in local flavor and inspired by vintage Florida citrus groves, with a focus on seasonal dishes and relaxed hospitality".

Fresh Kitchen, the Florida-based "healthy bowl" concept from Ciccio Restaurant Group, is expanding its Central Florida presence, moving into the former Chicken Guy location on 17-92. Fresh Kitchen already operates locations in S**o, Waterford Lakes, and Lake Mary.

Edit: Also adding to the list of new dining spots in Winter Park is PopUp Bagels. They are officially opening their much anticipated Winter Park location on Friday, May 29th at 646 South Orlando Avenue. PopUp Bagels will be celebrating their newest location with a limited-time-only Chocolate Chip Banana Bread schmear. A delicious treat for those who brave the long lines (and very small parking lot).

After 30 years in senior roles at major banks across Florida, Erik Weiner is returning to his roots with Portrait Bank, which is set to open this year at 941 West Morse Blvd. Joining him as chairman of the board is banking legend Ed Timberlake — whose 50-year career included a 15-year stint as regional president of Bank of America — coming out of retirement because he believes in the mission.

And the timing couldn't be more critical. As of early 2025, just six community banks remain headquartered across Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Lake counties — down from 38 in 2000 — with not one of them in Winter Park. Four large banks now control 67% of the Central Florida market.

So how can a small community bank compete? Read the full story to find out. https://winterparkmag.com/2026/03/31/high-tech-but-higher-touch/

Forty-five years ago today, on May 8, 1981, Winter Park became the most talked-about address in America.

In the early morning hours, the earth quietly, then dramatically, opened up at the corner of Denning and Fairbanks. By the time it was done, the Winter Park Sinkhole stretched over 300 feet wide and swallowed multiple Porsches, a Datsun truck, a home, and even a corner of the city's swimming pool.

Miraculously, not a single person was hurt.

Today, it's a small, tree-lined pond named Lake Rose in honor of the woman whose house was swallowed. A reminder that even the most dramatic chapters have a way of settling into something beautiful.
