When goat breeders say goats love to find ways to get hurt, we mean it. Our example from this weekend. While I was getting ready for the next show. Things move fast, so you have to get goats switched quickly. All of a sudden one of the kids in our group came running, saying a goat was stuck and travis needed me. I go running thinking a head got stuck in the pen (we were in the fair pig barn, the bars are wide enough for some goat heads). I was wrong. Roisin got all the way through to her hip bones. We had to pull her back through, which was not an easy task. I didnt know how she got that far through in the first place. Her shoulders were a tight fit and i am still amazed she got them through in the first place. She was stressed. We were hot, stressed, etc. I pulled her back end and travis and a friend guided her front end. We got her out and made it to show the yearling milkers witch gave roisin enough time to recover for her 2 year old milker show.

I took a nap and can think again. So here are my take aways from this weekends show.

1. There were some gorgeous goats there!
2. We are not good at showing, its only our third show. But we are learning and thats okay.
3. You never know what your goat will do. The ones who walk great may decided to be horrible in the ring (aka jupiter!). The ones you think will do horrible may walk amazing (aka rosa and thunder)
4. By round 4 , some goats may be over it and you can cut them. Even mid show (its okay Sundae, I still love you, the tantrum in the ring was a clear sign you were done!)
5. One judge may love your goat, the next puts it last. You never know.
6. By round 4, most of the people are done too and everyone is exhausted. Its important to have grace and remember that.

And yes we do show at county fair every year, it's a fun show. But we are basically the only ones that show dairy goats so I do not count that as there is no one to compete against and learn from.

We made it home! We learned a lot. This was only our third show. We didn't show last year. Besides county fair.

Fox Acres PS Star Fire got 2nd in both the first and second rings
Fox Acres ST Molded Tangerine got 5th in the 3rd ring
DuckDawg Creek SP Rachel got 5th in ring two
Bear Park Bluffs TF BooX2 got 5th in ring two and 4th in ring three
Rosie Bird G Jupiter got 3rd in ring one and 5th in ring three.

It was a long day yesterday but fun! Back today for ring 3 and 4 of senior does.

We leave for colfax tomorrow. Are the goats ready? No. Is the trailer ready? No. Do we have everything we need? No.

Ive reached the point the bare minimum will do. Shave jobs will not be perfect. Hooves wont either. Life will go on. First show of the season coming up!

I signed Bella up as a dry yearling since the pregnancy test i had done said she was open. She is also signed up for our county fair in July as a dry yearling. The small udder i just found when we were doing touch ups to get them all ready for show this weekend says the test lied. Kidding season is not over. She's due during our fair week 🤣.

Oh my sweet Tangerine, ff udder
