Interviews set for new superintendent

by Doug Hanson
Eight applications were received for the GFW Superintendent position to replace interim Superintendent Kelly Smith. Of the eight candidates, six were males and two were females. Two had superintendent experience. While eight doesn’t seem like a large number, it was pointed out that there are 16 superintendent openings currently in Minnesota. Montevideo, a larger district only had seven applications.
Jeff Bertrang and Harold Remme of South Central Service Cooperative had reviewed the applications and completed research on each applicant. They recommended four individuals to be interviewed. Also they said the Board could interview just three if it wanted or select one of the other four. (The names of applicants are not public until they are selected to be interviewed.)
After looking at the four candidates, the Board agreed to interview three of individuals recommended and wanted to add one of the candidates that was not listed.
Starting next Monday, the Board will interview Paul Henn, Assistant Elementary Principal, New Ulm Public Schools; Joel Timberman, K-6 Elementary Principal, Kimball Public Schools; Judd Wheatley, K-12 Principal MARACAY Public School and Allen Berg, first year Superintendent-shared between Glenville-Emmons and Alden-Conger Public Schools.
Interviews will start Monday, Jan. 27, 2 p.m. and run through 7 p.m. The Board will then discuss the four candidates and make a decision on who to invite back for a second interview.
The District hopes to offer the superintendent position to a candidate on February 3rd and have a signed contract at its February 18th meeting.

And this is why there are road closed signs on Second Street. Tuesday morning an Amazon truck came off North Carver Street and entered Second Street hoping to get to the Post Office. After the rain overnight, the road was sloppy and the truck proceeded to get stuck.
