The Wisner city council met for their second monthly meeting on Nov. 17 with an agenda full of items needing approval. One of those items that needed approval was a zoning change from residential to commercial for Lots 1, 2, 9, and 10, Block 9, Jane S Wisner Addition in the city of Wisner. The request was made by Jon Greve to be able to have shop for his business.
A public hearing was held in case anyone from the public or council had any questions on the change. After the public hearing an ordinance was approved for the change from residential to commercial.
The council also heard from Roger Protzman of JEO Consulting Group regarding bid opening for east highway 275 utility relocation which would include electrical and sewer. This is part of the expansion project of highway 275. The portion east of Wisner to West Point is the final portion of the project that will be completed and it is set to start sometime in the spring of 2026. The council approved to open the bidding process for utility relocation.
The council also approved two Dinklage grant requests to be forwarded on to the Dinklage Foundation. One was from the Wisner Senior Center and the other was from the Wisner Heritage Museum.
The Wisner Care Center also requested help with purchase of a second washer to replace one that is 35 years old. The center is purchasing one on their own to replace the other washer that broke down recently. The council approved the purchase of a new washer.

W-P One Act takes seventh at East Husker Conference One Act
Dusty Kruger

The Wisner-Pilger One Act didn’t have to travel far for their division in conference One Act as it was held in Wisner on Nov. 18. Even though it was held in Wisner, Humphrey-Lindsay was considered the host school for the competition.
The Gators were the first play to perform out of the eight schools that were there with their play called “Checking In”. It’s a play that centers around a bellhop named Bernard and his interactions with various guests that check in at the hotel and his feelings towards a cleaning lady named Natasha.
After all of the plays had been performed the results were announced and the Gators came in at seventh place. Howells-Dodge was the champion of the west division. The Gators did receive some outstanding performance and tech crew awards. The entire tech crew of Trey Buss, Shekinah Claus, Devine Streeter, and Kristen Schultz received outstanding tech crew awards. Dustin Siebrandt, Adelynn Sateren, Kirra Johnson, Daniel Kilcoin, Jaylee Lueken, and Lindsey Borgelt all received outstanding performance awards for their roles in the play.

Rich Brahmer named 2025 Wisner Lions Club Citizen of the Year

Rich Brahmer knew there was a Lions Club meeting going on last Wednesday night and that they were announcing their citizen of the year. He even joked with his wife that they didn’t choose him again this year, but he was in for a surprise.
Alan Harms had given him a call while he was sitting at the kitchen table saying there was a lady governor of the Lions Club International that was there knew him from way back and that he should come down and say hi. So, he made his way down and as soon as he walked into the VFW where the club was meeting, his family members and a few others yelled “SURPRISE”. “I was completely surprised,” said Brahmer.
Barry Meyer, who filled in for club president Clayton Hoefs, let Brahmer and everyone else know that Brahmer had been chosen as the 2025 Citizen of the Year. Harms then read off a nomination letter sent in that nominated Brahmer for the award.
In the nomination letter it talked about some of contributions to the community that Brahmer has done for Wisner. It mentioned his service on the city council for two stints and serving 12 years on the board of education. It also talked about his time as the current commander of the Wisner VFW Post #5767 and how he’s been able to keep it a viable part of the community. How he’s also kept the tradition of having both a Veterans Day and Memorial Day program to recognize local veterans. The letter also talked about his time in the United States Air Force and serving in Vietnam before being discharged from active duty in 1974 then serving in the reserves for another 11 years.
After all the formalities were done, everyone in attendance enjoyed a nice thanksgiving meal that included turkey, ham, stuffing, green bean casserole, dinner roll and various pie choices.

Jingle and Mingle kicks off holiday shopping in Wisner
Dusty Kruger

The holiday shopping season kicked off this past weekend in Wisner. Stan Ortmeier True Value in Wisner held their annual holiday shopping event this past Sunday which they called Jingle and Mingle. In previous years it was called Ladies Night out, but has grown a lot over the years and expanded offerings.
The setup for this year’s event looked a little bit like a Christmas village. There was plenty of room to walk around to see everything available. There was a couple of theme decorated trees with one being a Marti Gras theme.
The event brought in a steady stream of customers looking for some good deals on various holiday decorations. There were plenty of new Christmas decorations this year to choose from as well as the yearly favorites.
If you missed this event, you can still catch West Point’s event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
