We don't offer support to authors outside CRP but my friend Alexa offers wonderful programs like this one: Book Launch in a Box!!!

The complete 6-month system to build your audience, earn reviews, and give your book the launch (or boost) it deserves — even if you have no idea where to start. Stop Guessing. Start Launching. Most authors spend months writing their book… then like two weeks trying to launch it. BLAB teaches yo...

It's THAT time of year! Field Day is quickly approaching. Instead of ribbons and medals as prizes this year, how about gifting your students with a copy of Evie's Field Day by Claire Annette Noland? Reach out to [email protected] about a school discount!

This special yearly event always makes us think of one of our recent Cardinal Rule Press titles, Evie’s Field Day: More Than One Way to Win by Claire Noland and illustrated by Alicia Teba.

Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about book access with the book bank we started in Metro Detroit - MAKING SPIRITS BRIGHT and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned and how it has impacted choices I make in my day job as publisher at Cardinal Rule Press.

I will be with my fellow indie publishers at IBPA Publishing University this May in Portland, Oregon. If you’re attending PubU, come and say hi!

In 2026, we’re pausing new manuscript submissions — and I want to be clear why.

This decision is not about closing our business. It’s about sustainability.

The publishing industry has been unpredictable, and as a small company, this is the right moment to reduce expenses, evaluate our business plan, and focus on what’s working.

We’ll continue selling our backlist of over two dozen picture books that support children’s mental wellness. We will continue translating our books into other languages.

On a personal note, I’m also choosing balance. With kids growing fast and afternoons filled with family commitments, this pause allows me to lead wisely — both at work and at home.

This pause doesn’t mean we’re stepping away from our mission. Our books are still here. Our messages still matter. Our commitment to children’s mental wellness remains unchanged. We’re also exploring expanded book access through the nonprofit, Making Spirits Bright, continuing our mission in new and impactful ways.

For now, we’re simply honoring the reality that businesses, like people, go through seasons—and this one calls for reflection, focus, and balance.
