See you on the launch pad, GOES-T! ๐Ÿ›ฐ Rocket girl is a GO! I'm very excited to share that I'll be covering another launch from the Space Coast for NOAA Satellite and Information Service GOES-R series! A little throwback here to my first ever launch on March 1, 2018, and how serendipitous it is the launch window opens the early evening of March 1, 2022! On Wednesday I received my approval from NASA's Kennedy Space Center to represent News 12 and can't wait to bring you exciting stories and behind-the-scenes interviews leading up to liftoff! There's SO much to break down for you before the boosters even ignite ๐Ÿš€ This is special to me...I "met" GOES-T when it was assembled in Colorado, followed its journey to Florida, and now get to be part of the moment when they send it to the stars! It's T minus 12 days, and will be another exciting moment in Satellite history for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Lockheed Martin, United Launch Alliance, L3Harris Technologies & Ball Aerospace. So much more to come, watch your local News 12 Weather for the latest!
She is an explorer. An innovator. A dreamer. A hard worker. Brilliant and beautiful in her own way. Someone who wonโ€™t take no for an answer and do everything she can to achieve her biggest goals. She has hope, shines at what she does and she wants to see change. Sheโ€™s a SCIENTIST. Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, so together letโ€™s celebrate women and girls who are leading innovation and call for actions to remove all barriers that hold them back. Iโ€™m proud to be a scientist, a meteorologist, and make it my mission every day to continue to encourage young girls to dream big...and support other women to be their best selves and succeed. Shoutout to my fellow News 12 Weather female meteorologists Samantha Augeri, Meteorologist Hope Osemwenkhae, & Michele Powers โ˜€๏ธ Be you, bold, beautiful, & original! MORE:
Will the REAL meteorologist please stand up โ˜€๏ธ When you overhear Antoinette Biordi & Thema Ponton chatting about the News 12 Weather app, you make sure they know who's the weather boss in the studio ๐Ÿ˜‰ (Don't worry, watch until the end, โค๏ธ my Weekend Warrior sisters, all in fun!)
Today is appreciate your meteorologists day, also know as officially National Weatherperson's Day! Yes, it's an actual holiday and I've attached the story below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ Our job is not easy, I'll be the first to admit it, and just know when the forecast is tricky we spend hours and even days of our off time studying it to keep you safe and have an accurate forecast as possible at the time. Proud to be part of our News 12 Weather Storm Watch Team! โ˜€๏ธ
That's a lot of real estate covered by this system; from the top of Maine to the bottom of Texas as of 6:PM. Every season represented too ! It's our turn now. It's mild so we have rain and dense fog. It will be turning colder. Not a big snow producer for us; that will stay across interior PA and NYS up into New England. Our concern is ice. Amounts will range from a spotty glaze along the coast south & east of the City to as much as 1/4" or more in the north & west suburbs which will coat trees and power lines while making driving and walking treacherous on untreated surfaces. Get those DOT trucks out there, salting/sanding now. Maps and graphic show extent of this system, temperatures and radar depiction of the changeover. (Maps courtesy of my News 12 Weather graphics) Be sure you get up early on Friday and check out what's happening out your window and with #TrafficAndWeatherTogether #OnThe8s on WCBS Newsradio 880
Time flies when you love what you do! Can't believe I've been with News 12 Weather for three months already, covering historic weather events & telling incredible stories! Thank you Long Island & Hudson Valley for being so welcoming as well as my News 12 family, so blessed โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ซ
My cocker spaniel trying to dig through her back yard. She digs with her nose. Go Taffy!
With so much going on, on WCBS Newsradio 880, I'm going to let the maps do most of the talking in this post. #TrafficAndWeatherTogether on the 8's. Maps courtesy: News 12 Weather U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) Pivotal Weather My thoughts as of this afternoon- Now that the annoying zig-zagging of the different models appears to be smoothing itself out, confidence grows that we'll all need shovels and plows. But it shouldn't be too much work in the far north & west suburbs (approx I287 and up) whereas the City and nearby suburbs (approx within 20 miles) will have a much rougher go of it and the worst of all (NJ shore, E.LI and CT coast) could temporarily come to a halt with 1 foot+, considerable D&B snow with rates of 2"+ per hour, near blizzard conditions, 50+ mph gusts and tidal flooding. This will be a dry & powdery capable of big drifts and blowing back onto areas just plowed. The maps posted show the usual 10:1 ratio for snow but atmospheric conditions are suggesting maybe 15:1 ratios which will really allow it to pile up. Questions still remain as to exact positioning of the nor'easter. You can see that by the scatter on the track graphic. Those points are not tightly clustered as I would like to see but there is much better uniformity than yesterday. And there is no doubt this has the potential to become a real powerhouse if the ingredients mix just right an the storm goes BOOM. I strongly agree with the projections from my News 12 Weather colleagues. That is followed by the actual snowfall maps from the various models used.
First school talk for News 12 Weather with 3rd graders at Oceanside Elementary on Long Island. I love how excited they were about both weather AND space! Honestly, one of the favorite parts of my job is this...getting our youth excited about space and STEM. Hope I inspired at least one kid to go into either field โ˜€๏ธ
Ahhh when a few of your News 12 Weather meteorologists are caught on camera being, well, unknowingly funny ๐Ÿ˜‚ Meteorologist Mike Rizzo at 18:00 Dave Curren at 25:30 And yes, I'm there at 0:55 from back at WeatherNation Happy 2021 everyone, may this bring you a good laugh โ˜€๏ธ
