What's the hoopla around redistricting, and how will it impact the Congrssional elections in 2026 elections? Get a breakdown on gerrymandering.

The program headline for Leadership Asheville Forum’s monthly talk sounded dry enough to scare off casual observers: gerrymandering, redistricting and “other electoral curiosities.” But political scientist Dr. Chris Cooper quickly

From tuna suspended in lemon gelatin to the… creative choices of the 1970s, columnist Andrew Marshall takes a wildly funny deep dive into America’s most questionable culinary era — the age of the savory congealed salad.

It’s sharp, it’s nostalgic, it’s laugh-out-loud ridiculous — and it just might make you side-eye your grandmother’s recipe cards.

This is wonderful news!

After 318 days, we’re thrilled to finally say it:

Corner Kitchen is reopening Monday, August 11.

We’ve missed our staff. We’ve missed our guests. We’ve missed the life and laughter that filled these walls. We’re going to do our best not to cry when we say “thank you” in person.

The question wasn’t if we’d rebuild. It was how. We knew from the start that this wasn’t the end of Corner Kitchen. Yes, we know it may flood again — it almost certainly will. But there is a spirit that has always run through our way of being in this community. Call it subtext, call it core value, call it a belief system. We believe in ourselves. We believe in our colleagues and co-workers. We believe in Asheville. We believe in Historic Biltmore Village. We’ve done this before, and we knew we’d do it again.

There were hard days, yes, but also moments that reminded us why we do this: Neighbors cried when they saw the damage, then rolled up their sleeves to help. A stranger showed up with a shovel and stayed the entire day. You all donated thousands of dollars to our staff to help them get by. There was love. And there was community.

We’ve made some changes. The layout is more flood-resilient. The original staircase is restored. And the front door finally opens out (!!!). You’ll notice a few fresh touches that we can’t wait for you to see.

This is Corner Kitchen 2.0. Filled with new stories, hidden time capsules in the walls, and still, at its core: welcoming, nourishing, familiar, home.

We’re beyond proud to say more than 75% of our staff is returning. And we’re excited to be employing over 55 people, all working together to bring this place back to life.

To everyone who donated, sent love, stopped by, or simply waited for us — thank you. We are deeply grateful. And if we could hug you all at the door, we would.

We’re ready. Our team is ready. The Village is ready. And we hope you are too.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Kevin, Joe, Vanessa and Amy
