De-Google & The Dumbphone Revolution 😊📵

What’s the first thing you do after waking up?

You grab your phone. 📱
Then you check Telegram, WhatsApp, messages… and before you even realize it, you’re scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and everything else.

It almost feels like the phone is controlling us instead of us controlling the phone. 😭

And yeah, dopamine plays a big role in keeping us hooked.

Moving On 🫠

Here’s something interesting.

While many of us are constantly upgrading to newer and more powerful smartphones, a growing number of people—especially in the US and Europe—are choosing something completely different.

They’re going back to dumbphones. 😁

Phones like the Nokia 3310, Nokia 6300, Light Phone and similar devices.

No endless apps.
No infinite scrolling.
No constant notifications.

Just calls and texts.

And honestly, for basic communication, what else do you really need in an emergency?

Sometimes disconnecting from the internet is better than being connected 24/7. 😊

But Why? 🤔

A lot of people have realized that smartphones can seriously affect their time, attention and ability to focus.

When the constant notifications and endless content disappear, your mind gets more space to actually think.

You start doing things instead of endlessly consuming things.

Some people still use smartphones—but they’re trying to take control of their digital life.

That’s where “De-Googling” comes in.

Instead of relying completely on Google and other big tech companies, some privacy-focused users remove unnecessary Google services and switch to alternatives.

They might use privacy-focused operating systems such as GrapheneOS or LineageOS, alternative app stores like F-Droid, privacy-focused email services such as Proton Mail, and browsers/search engines like Brave or DuckDuckGo.

The idea is simple:

Use technology without allowing technology to completely control you.

And then there’s the famous line:

«“If the product is free, you are the product.” 👀»

Whether it’s Google, Meta, Apple or another major tech company, your digital activity can generate valuable data.

That’s why you sometimes search for something once and suddenly start seeing related recommendations or advertisements everywhere.

It can feel creepy. 🙃

The bigger question isn’t just “Who has my data?”

It’s:

“How much of my attention am I giving away every day?”

The Real Benefit 📵

The biggest advantage of using a dumbphone—or simply reducing smartphone usage—is getting your time and attention back.

Less doomscrolling.
Fewer distractions.
More focus.
More real-life activity.

And of course, dumbphones usually have amazing battery life too. 🔋😂

Maybe the future of technology isn’t always about having more features.

Maybe sometimes it’s about having fewer features—but more control. 🙂

Technology should be a tool you control, not a habit that controls you.

​On the surface, it looked like a fairytale. Underneath, it was a ticking time bomb:
​The Cultural Clash: The Macedonians viewed Persians as "the defeated." To them, wearing Persian clothes or marrying their daughters wasn’t "unification"—it was a betrayal of their Greek identity.
​The Resentment: Alexander wanted to build bridges; his generals wanted to build walls. They didn't see wives; they saw "objects of political duty."

​Alexander tried to force change from the outside in. While Alexander’s empire shattered within a year, Pandukabhaya’s foundation lasted for over 1,000 years.
